So in light of my truck being recently stolen I have decided to build in an ignition cut-off circuit. (Because chaining the shifter just isn't enough)
The basic design is as follows:
A hidden button that shuts of a relay automatically when the car is shut down (better then a switch as you don't have to remember to engage it)
To start the vehicle you simply turn the key to the run position and then press the hidden button (or secondary key if you prefer that). The circuit is then engaged until you turn the key off (IE you can't loose ignition by bumping the switch again)
You can put the relay into the starter circuit, ignition circuit, or other.
Cost:
For just the relay with small controller it will be about $10
I'm going to use a button similar to this:
Cost is approx 11 dollars for that button (Flush mount vandal resistant sealed ect... (2A @48V).
If you want a relay and a button add w/e your button cost is... (you can get the same one or a different one off of digikey/other but it needs to be normally open and momentarily on)
If anyone wants a circuit like this to install on their truck let me know!
On a related note I'm putting in an order from digikey in the near future (probably on Monday night) if anyone wants to add anything to the order let me know please.
Digikey is a large electronics supplier and sells good electronics stuff for all sorts of things (If you need switches they have high quality ones for various prices) Electronic Components Distributor | DigiKey Corp. | CA Home Page
