I went for a long drive, parked at home for an hour or so, and then it would not start. Further checking found the distributor had developed an issue. It would not free turn when I put it on the bench. There was a hitch at one point when spinning the shaft. I could not see any problem. So I bought a new (cheap) one. The old one had a Fireball electronic ignition that had worked perfectly for many years. I thought I would replace the points in the new one with a Pertronix from Mark's. But the Pertronix adapter plate would not fit the new dizzy plate without hitting the vac advance stuff. So, I tried another new dizzy that came with electronic ignition. I wasn't sure about that one and tried to fit the Pertronix in it, but same issue with the plate.
So I went back to a simple points model, but it would not start.
Trouble shooting showed no spark at the spark plug or at the coil. Then I tested the coil. 4 ohms between + and - , 9K between coil + and center. Seems in line with the guidelines.
The coil to distributor reads 4k ohms. Seems about right.
The original dizzy came from a '71 F engine had no identification on it. Neither did the next two.
Any ideas that might help??
