I currently own a 90 toyota pickup 4wd without power steering. I am in the process of adding PS to the truck. I know that there are differences in PS gear boxes on lenght of input shaft on the Style 1 (year 1986-1988 (pickup) and the 1986-1989 (4runner)) vs the style 2 (1989-1995 (truck) and the 1990-1995 (4runner))

style 1 steering box has a 1 inch longer steering shaft which can also be used with style 2 but you have to lengthen the steering shaft to the steering wheel by 1 inch (big deal LOL).

Yet my question is ...... Is there a differnce in steering boxes between the 4cyl and the V6???

I noticed different part #'s at autozone, but have been searching and noboy really encountered this problem... (I'm pretty sure that some bought a V6 PS box in the junkyard)

Thanks

Other than than the input snout length they are the same for all relevant purposes.

I have put on at least 30 ifs box conversions and sold way more ifs boxes also.

What about the ratio's of the boxes. Since I intalled my high-steer on my 81 it seems like I have to turn the wheel twenty times from lock to lock. :bang:

I think that the turning ratio is different with both style boxes. The later ones are supposed to have a faster turning ratio, but the earlier ones are supposed to me more available (supposedly). Also the input shaft is supposed to be 1 inch longer in the later style boxes....

But when looking at the parts on autozone.com. I noticed that the picture of the v6 ifs box looks different than the 4cyl. Even the hose locations are different.

yer not talking apples to apples.

You went from a different style/length or steering and arms and box all at the same time.

I suppose the geometry is different but, is the steering on ifs systems the same as mine from lock to lock. I would hope not for a stock vehicle. Maybe a newer style box would be a good option for me.
