Hey guys.

I spend more time in the Cruiser Sections but my good buddy just bought a 98 Pickup, doubler splitter, 4.70 gears, 5.29s, locked on 37s. Your probably asking why I am posting in the 79-95 Section. Well the truck is actually a 98 2 wheel drive with the 2UZ-FE that has the W56 five speed behind it and 85 T cases. It is also solid axle up front if you have not figured that out yet.

Appears to me that it is the standard High Steer, IFS box steering. The question I have is where do I find a number on the box to get a rebuild fit for it? It is leaking like a stuck pig around the input shaft.

My buddy is a diesel truck guy but new to Toyotas and the wheeling world. I am going to help him get things fine tuned on his truck. Any help is appreciated.

One more question. Does the 2UZ-FE have a timing belt or timing chain?

Any suggestions are appreciated. The exhaust coming out the rear is going to be fixed. I may pull a leaf or two out of the rear springs and the rear hanger looks like it was JB welded on. There is no Parking brake because the cable is ran to the front 8 inch high pinion locker. IT was a crappy job at a cable conversion. It does not seem to work like it should. We are going to pick up transfer case e-brake and get the e-locker back to its stock form.

I think the numbers are in the very back or butt end of the box. I'd imagine that all the ifs boxes from 86 to 95 are the same.... That is if whoever did the sas used that style box.... Which I think is highly likely. Hit up your local Toyota to check and see if the part number for a rebuild kit is the same 86 - 95.

Collecting parts in California is night and day difference from South Dakota. Not cheaper necessarily. $100 is probably the going rate for an IFS box around here and a rebuild kit is $120. I kind of want to tear into one to gain the Knowledge.
