idler shaft fell out on road, what happened?

I think I better park my 60, never redid the bad oil gallery plug on the head, waiting to see if that clunk is my worn tranny output shaft and the little bolt on the idler shaft is probably fatiguing as we speak. Not to mention, bad windshield wipers, neglected radiator, and the list goes on.

If I didn't read Mark W's tech articles I could enjoy the bliss of ignorance.

after wheeling a while back where i smacked my driveshaft, i have notived a rattle while driving. only while driving (fj-62 auto tranny). the t-case is full of synthetic, no leaks. i did have to replace the rear pinion seal because it was leaking after the wheeling trip. could this "rattle" be the idler bearings rattling around?

If bearings in your T/C are loose enough to "rattle" then your T/C usually dies quickly and usually most graphically. Most likely the vibration is from you bent driveshaft.

Man this kinda scares me a little. I've been having my tranny rattle for a while when it wams up and clutch is not engaged. Should I be worried here?

i've been getting a rattling under load recently. Thought at first it was low octane gas, but then realized it was coming from the case. only under load at speed after i'm warmed up.

Guess i'd better order a t-case rebuild and drive the suzuki this week.

There may be some different percetions about what "rattleing" is. A lot of trannies make a noise. Worn bearings that really *should* be replaced, but will keep working without problems for a long time. To me rattling is when it sounds like you've got parts and chunks bouncing around inside. :(

mine sounded at first like detonation, but i was running 93 plus octane boost, so that couldn't be it. i can feel it in the t-case shift lever, too. i'd be willing to be my idler shaft bearings are ready to go.

Ironic, too, bcause in about a month, she's coming completely apart for the better part of a year. Just wish she'd hold out a little longer, but i can't risk it.

I have a slight rattling, which can be felt by the T-case lever. I have been told that when oil is low in the T-case, the first parts to wear are the 2wd - 4wd shift fork and -bushing, and here comes the rattling. I was told they are one of the cheapest parts for the T-case, but have not had time to do the rebuild. Now I have an other tranny/T-case to rebuild and then change, because my HJ60 is my daily driver.

My transfer lever rattles while I'm driving. The gearbox also whines a bit too loudly when I 'back-off' while in gear. Doesn't do it so much in 4th but all other gears (5 speed gearbox). I avoid this by trying not to use the gears while slowing down. I've got a long trip in Sept, so I'm hoping it's all going to be ok.
