Idle too fast - 3b

Just replaced mine yesterday. It probably took me two hours, only due to the fact that i was stressing about the job after reading the posts. I removed the starter for easier access to the EDIC bracket bolts, popped off the diaphram cover and slid the diaphram off of the pin. There was no retaining clip on the pin so my diaphram just slid off the end once i removed the cover. I cleaned up the housing, slipped the new diaphram on, and bolted everything back together. I figured that since it has lasted this long without a retaining clip i would not re-install one. (and the fact that i did not have one and i needed the truck the next day) If it does not last this way, another 2 hours and $40 is worth the try of missing all the hard work everyone is experiencing with the clip!

Good luck, mine idles great now!

I'm replacing the diaphragm on my BJ60 and do not have a new gasket. Was wondering if anyone has a template to make one. Thanks

I don't think I replaced mine but that was 5-6 years ago so the memory could be a little fuzzy. In any case the gasket is the LEAST of your worries.

btw. The issues with my diaphragm was that the truck would stall if I let off the throttle (VERY low idle). Once I got a new diaphragm the idle was fine again.

help

So I changed out the diaphragm. The old one had about 5 different tears in it. Put everything back together and instead of the idle going down it now races straight up to 3000rpm. Any ideas?

if it starts creeping up again then your diaphram is ripped and needs replacing...

Update: A month after adjusting the idle down it crept up again so I ordered a diaphram from http://store.4wheelauto.com/index.php in Edmonton for $50. Removed the edic and the old diaphram and sure enough it was torn. Started the truck with the new part and the idle was very low so I adjusted it back up and now it's running great. Thanks for all the advice fellas!

gotta watch that 4wheel auto. They aree great, for all the parts are in stock, in fact they are super easy to order from and very helpful. BUT that comes at a price. I just bought a denso diaphram from Prince George fuel injection for 25 bucks. I also bought a new style hand primer for 20 bucks from them. The hand primer is a bosch, they say it works. Will let you know. I put one on my Mercedes and it was a nice hand primer.

Now don't get me wrong, I have spent a couple thousand at 4wheel and they have a lot of great things. Some are good prices. Others are convenience.

so look around. use part numbers provided on here, see who gives better prices.
