I personally do not have the before RTI specs as I did not know about this process until I heard them talking about it.

This maybe something they did before [while I was not there] and the after of which I was present for. I will look into this and see. I took the images as they where looking at it and came home and started looking on the www.

Sorry for the lengthy RTI parts as I was searching and sharing, but I take it most on here already know this stuff.

Tell me you have RTI numbers before the mod.

I will have the specs soon, but at the same time the shocks that are on the rig are baseline prototypes units only and could change through the process.

Do you know the specs for the shocks? I'm most interested in compressed and extended length, and amount of travel it has.

I'm assuming it's a 10" travel shock?

Hey Rwhat!

Nice to chat with you over here too!

Yes, I have not address what I personally want yet as I do not know what I personally want... Do I want 33"s or 35"s? Do I want 2/4/6" of lift and just how heavy do I plan on traveling everyday and on the weekends?

But in order for me to personally get what I want, I have to give a little [give up my daily driver] all while taking heat on the forum for not supplying you with info you want - right now, with such information that does not exists and I have no crystal ball to look into the crystal ICON ball to see & know what they want to do.

The beauty of forums like this is to have an exchange of ideas and info in order for people to share ideas, thus to get/give feedback to said manufacturer with the desired purpose of providing customers with what they want. My wants will even come after your wants!

And yes I also agree with you about 80-Owners and you will NEVER see a METAL MULLET™ sticker, nor any 20oz cans of whatever or 40" tractor tires on my ADV80!!! And to be honest with you, these IVD HD Series shocks are very bling and I am actually considering once this whole process is over to run the "less bling: 2.0 Aluminum Shocks instead of these "hella bling" HD 2.5 V.S. Series Piggy-Back Shocks.

Yes, I know 80 owners have 3 types of setups: light, medium and heavy.
Yes, ICON will be evaluating these three areas in the form of two shock bodies. Starting stock and moving up is a lot easier than starting mod and going down to stock. Its a process.
Yes 3+ valving options - noted and will deliver this info on to ICON Vehicle Dynamics as I DO NOT WORK FOR ICON Vehicle Dynamics.

And, this post has been on Expo forum for 5 days with no interest. Basically your pimping a shock with RTI numbers and not addressing a shock for what 80 owners want. 80 owners are not your standard crowd with Metal Militia stickers and 20" Rockstars and 40" tires on our junk wanting to have the coolest looking shock at the local Starbucks.

ICON VEHICLE DYNAMICS Piggy-Back Prototype Shocks for the 80 Series

Give us real results from rolling on the 405 to The desert like you said. If you guys plan on just selling a shock valved to your rig than thats fine. For guys with high miles and no lift, who will get almost out this shock? If i had a cruiser with 200,000+ miles on stock spring and shocks any new shock from Checkers,Napa and VatoZone would feel awesome.

What i'm asking is to have a someone spend the time to have their shocks setup on different weight rigs. 80 owners have 3 types of setups light, medium and heavy.

Can YOU tell me who sells shocks that meet this criteria? I'm not asking for a fully adjustable shock which is basically impossible. Will ICON step up and do their research and produce a shock with 3+ different valving options?

Price Points

At this time I can only say: light-$, medium-$ and heavy-$ and this will be in a combination between the V.S. Series 2.0 and HD 2.5 V.S. Series Piggy-Back Shocks.

What is the price point going to be like?

No, these are prototype shocks only for fitment first and then all the other fitments will follow. They are not just going to go FULL BLING BLIND LUCK and hope they have the whole 80-series market covered with some pretty shocks.

There is no such thing as luck, it's Learning Under Correct Knowledge and the FASHION is FUNCTION.

So these are replacements for stock cruisers??

Might want to lift it a bit and put on some beefier tires to do some real world testing.

At $439 a shock i'm out no matter what but i'll be watching to see how they do.
But with fox making their shocks for the 80 and most likely being half the price these would have to be worth their weight in gold to sway some I think.

The upper is factory mounted but I think the lower portion was an eyelet so they made new shaft/mounts so it would bolt in as a factory piece. Again, these are prototypes and when finished, production units will bolt into factory location with factory style mounts.

Classic! What is the upper mounting connection on the front shocks? I was quite impressed with the ride of ICON shocks on my buddies long travel FJ. From my experience, they are the real deal.

Hey Gabe! I have you on my list! Thank you.

Hey Rodney, when they are ready to test some shocks on a lifted 80 with a full expo load of crap in it, let me know... My truck is available :)

Gabe

Don't forget about the available Radflo shocks too. They even make them for lifted LCs! They also have the correct stud mounting on top (not an eye) so you don't lose an inch or two of travel.

I have eye mounts and have not lost any travel. The shock mount point has little to nothing to do with how you design suspension travel on your rig. Converting to eye mounts simply changes your compressed/extended figures.

Back to the program - the 80 needs good shocks more than any other suspension component, but the price point is $150 - $200 per shock, not $400+.

Damn, i've blown the budget again... :hillbilly:

Are you saying that the 80-Series does not have good options in the $150-$200 range? I find that hard to believe as I know I have some choices outside of ICON within that price range. Not unless you are saying you want 4-shock for $150-$200... please say per corner becuase R/C shocks at he hobbystore's cost that much!

Yet at the same time, while I do not know the whole ICON plan, there will be two types of shocks avialable from them the VS2.0's and HD2.5's

I just did the quick search and the ICON VS 2.0 sells for $145

Being that I am an ASSumer, then the 80-Series would fall around this range give or take few $-/+'s.

All we need are the progressive rate springs to go along with those ICON VS 2.5's and we'll be set! I use my cruiser as a chase vehicle so, I have been looking for some suspension that can handle some lite prerunning. Although, I have been pretty impressed with how my OME suspension has been holding up. It does a decent job of sucking up the bumps.

Since this has been brought back to the top, are there any updates on these shocks?

And just to clarify, I think Nay was alluding to the fact that with the pin-pin front and pin-eye rear and the associated lengths for each, that 80 owners don't have a large selection of direct fit quality shocks at a good price point. If you look at Fox, icon, radflo, bilstein, etc. in order to get a proper install you have to do some fab work or use the eye adapters which cost travel of the shock.

I know Radflo has some options out there and Fox was working on something, not sure anymore, and 80 owners will pay for quality, within reason.

TJM Progressive Coil Spring XGS

It's been a while since the last update, but work is work and it has been very busy as always.... and I ran out of my special ink and paper for the dead presidents printer and kids cost a lot of money, especially at age 12 and sixteen. Add the fact that they are girls and it just seems to cost more... things just don't happen as fast as we wish they would.

ICON has been very busy too! First it was SEMA and then the holidays and all their regular production and other top shelf projects, then KOH as in King Of The Hammers. So, yea, they too have been flat out!

With all that, I did manage to stuff in a 4" lift in and added some new jewerly to the ADV80:wrench:

The Springs I am using are:

Front: TJM Progressive Coil Spring XGS 4" Lift 80 Series 770FRC480B

Rear: TJM Progressive Coil Spring XGS 4" Lift 80 Series 770RRC480B
The photo shows the stock rear spring in comparison to the TJM XGS Progressive spring. These springs are cold-wound and progressive. So they are durable and will be less saggy over time than a hot wound spring and progressive meaning they soft where you want them and stiff where you need them.

With giving the rig a 4" lift there are a couple of items to attend to:
6774806957_4b72fd9944_z.jpg

TJM Castor ADJ XGS .25 Degree correction kit - 66310R

6774832069_17754cc0aa_z.jpg

TJM Brake Line Kit XGS Extended LC 80 and 100 Series 658BLKIT04 658BLKIT05

First Impression::steer:
I installed the bumper and siderails first before adding the spings and drove it home. I could totally feel the weight added and just though I was going to hate this whole process.

I got the TJM XGS springs installed and gave it test drive it. First I was just dealing with sitting up so high! I also thought I was going to be adding extra cushion to my seat as I have seen so many rigs lifted and rid so STIFF! I was very pleased and rather suprised just how good these springs road. My drive home was a 50-miler so I had plenty of time to soak it in. The springs "progressive" nature is very compliant to the small bumps and ripples of these California rough roads. But the real test will come later when I can get it out in the dirt for the real purpose. I can drive this every day and be stoked about the ride!

The ICON's are now working up in the intended stroke and my whole package is coming together!!!

I will be visting ICON again soon and sorting out a tech inspection and any other details that I can deliver at that time - I will.:wrench:

Where are you ordering your parts from? I'm interested to know if TJM makes those extended rubber brake lines in the 6" variety? Btw, are you sure those coils are progressive? They appear to be linear rate coils to me.

They are linear. Nobody makes a progressive for the 80 anymore, except in a 1-2" version :frown:

Yup, this is what I've been lead to believe. I've been looking for a taller progressive spring without success.

So your running incorrect castor correction and prototype shocks that are too short....IIRC
