I couldn't sleep last night so I drove up to Baldy Village and parked in the Ice House Canyon lot about 2:00am last night and spent the night in the truck. Got up at 5:00 am and hit the trail at 5:30am. I hiked in with a headlamp for about 45 minutes until there was some decent light and made the 6 mile trek to Cucamonga Peak by 8:45 am. Spent half an hour exploring all the great possibilities for camping on the summit and then headed back down. Today the marine layer to the west was super heavy and looked like you could walk on it. The clouds to the north and east were amazing and I'll bet up the mountain there will be a spectacular sunset tonight. I did a couple of side trails and covered about 14.25 miles today in 5:03. I basically ran the last couple of mile back to the Ice House parking lot. It was nice to be back so early and still have time to spend with the family.
