Gentleman, I started out with an auto to manual transmission swap, but I have since decided to do more with the transfer case setup. The truck is a V6 95 4runner and I have looked at the websites for Marlin, Inchworm, Allpro etc for all the info on transfer cases. My goal is to not mess with drive shaft modifications, and put in a single 4.70 gear case. (90:1)

I have finished the following modifications:
Removed automatic
Installed new pedal assy and hydraulics
Installed resurfaced flywheel, new clutch
Installed the R150 5 spd,
Removed and opened the VF1 transfer case

I have the following parts:
Marlin's 4.70 gear set 23 spline
85 4runner parting out (fwd shift transfer case?)
$150 gift certificate to Advanced Adapters

I know I need the V6 adapter plate, which I will get through AA with the gift certificate. But can I use the transfer case out my 85? Pretty sure its forward shifting, or does that matter? Can it be converted? Finally, with the width of the V6 adapter, will the stock drive shafts still be ok?

Thanks for your time.

In order to use the V6 adapter, you need a top shift 4 cylinder t case. If your 85 case is forward shift (non EFI truck) , it can be converted to a top shift. Marlin sells a kit to do it. A forward shift has two forks sticking out of the front of it. A top shift doesnt. I cant help you on whether your driveshafts will work though.. Since you're going to have to disassemble the 4 cylinder case to install the 23 spline 4.7 gears, making it a top shift will be easy.
