My tires are over 10 years old and are separating. My 470 is stock and I live in the So. Ca. so I am looking for tires.
Has the tariffs taken effect yet?
If so what has the price increase been?
What tire would you recommend? Never off road but I envision some easy dirt rails nothing extreme.
I find my choices limited, Tire Rack that used to be great only allows to view about 3 reviews.
Costco not much.
Sam's seems better.
Discount tire wants me to tell them a story before I can view the tires,
I just replaced my upper and lower OEM parts.
So this is starting to get expensive for a vehicle I barely drive.
Thanks in advance

For on-road with some dirt, I'd sugges Falken Wildpeak AT4Ws or Toyo Open Country AT III. The former is more off-road oriented, the latter is more on-road oriented and lighter. Both are good tires.

FWIW, I don't bother with the chain tire stores and get all of my tires from a local independent tire shop. They can order almost any brand (sans Michelin and Goodyear) and are the same price or cheaper as all of the chain tire places. They usually have the tires I order within a day.

Navigating Tire Rack can be a confusing. The reviews are actually on another page from the "main page" of the tire. I've been researching for new AT tires and have been spending quite a bit of time on that website.

Prices have gone up a bit but not drastically from what I've seen.

Highway tires do OK on dirt trails so long as you aren't doing anything serious.

Good suggestions. I am highly considering the Falken AT4Ws in 265/70 as my next set of tires but I haven't considered the Toyos.

I also second the independent tire shop (especially when it comes to non-OE sized tires) but I have had pretty good experience with installing at Discount/America's Tires. Since they've bought Tire Rack, it's convenient for scheduling installations.

I took my GX to Discount Tire for an alignment earlier this year. They refused to align it due to it being lifted....despite the fact that they aligned it a year ago . I'd probably get tires at Discount if they were substantially cheaper than my local shop, but the local guy is usually around $5-10 cheaper, and is located outside of the city limits so sales tax is much less :).

So I go back on America's Tire and they will not allow me to look at the tires until I tell them what kind of driver I am. Who runs that company?

They want data (in the guise of "making sure you get the right tires")...

Great thing about Tire Rack is they will still ship to the local independent shops in their network. I found one of my favorite mom and pop tire shops that way. I've been using them for a while.

If you look around (say FB marketplace), there are shops selling for lower than Tire Rack. I'm almost certain they're cash prices.

Thanks I am having a real tough time wanting to play there game. I guess this is what happens when you hire the fresh out of college kids.

Unfortunately we're dealing with many people in America who are 'non compos mentis'. Not all cultures are equal.

I've been looking too. I'm not having the same site issues, and scrolled through 17 pages of tires the other day. I'm leaning towards the Yokohama Geolandar At go15 again, (it would be my 3rd set) as I really like them for what I need. They are running about $45/tire more expensive than last time I bought a set (pre-covid).
Where I'm waffling now is whether to go E rated again, or just do SL. SL are 7 pounds lighter per tire. I could have sworn I saw some bridgestone AT Revo somethings for $182 per tire,(Likely old generation on closeout) but I can't find them again. For that price I'd be willing to try them out. I've had the AT Revo2 on our work Tundra and they've been fine but wearing fast.
Tires were an easier decision when the price spread was wider. If we look at the common recommendations through the forums, I think the big 4 or 5 that always come up are within about $30 of each other at the same tire spec.

I always run SL tires on my GX. It's wheeled often (in sharp volcanic rocks). Last weekend I towed 5,800 pounds with my rig (compact tractor on a tilt trailer) for over 250 miles. We also towed our ~4,000 pound loaded camper over 3,800 miles with the GX this summer. The tires did great. BUT, I run Falken Wildpeaks, where the SL usually has a higher pressure rating (51 psi) than most other SLs (which are usually 44 psi I think), which really helps. I run the rears at 51 psi while towing.

I'd run a SL on the rig if you aren't towing. If you are towing I'd consider a more robust SL like a Wildpeak, or step up to a C load. There should never be a need for an E load on a GX unless it's a dedicated trail rig. My tire guy swears by Toyo Open Country AT3s, I run the Falkens as I've had good luck and the tread is a bit more aggressive.

Extremely happy with my michelin primacys.
Great highway grip, nice and smooth and quiet.
Towed the racecar no problem.
Got a killer deal on them too something like $140 apiece.

Only thing is they are not considered "all season tires" i swap to a winter set november through february.

Used tires are excellent value, especially when youre not sure which tire is best for you. Make sure date code is not older than you want for the price and go. For what its worth, I like Cooper AT3s. Tires are an item you can beat with a bat and not damage them. Why pay a premium? :meh:

You will have to find an independent shop to install. Many chain shops only deal in tires with stickers still on them.

E load is too much for the vast majority of use cases. Ask me how I know.

I found them on Tire Rack for the same price, I am in Ca. so winter tires are not an issue, no snow here.
How are they still holding up?

Is anyone running 255/70/17? It's seems like an oddball size and I was curious about on-road performance of something taller and a small amount skinnier.
I run asphalt slalom courses on the weekends you know.

For anyone still looking for suggestions, the Nitto Nomad Grappler in 265/65R17 is a solid choice for stock wheel setups on the GX. Quiet and smooth on road, solid grip in rain and snow, and decent for basic off-road use. If you want to go a little bit more aggressive, I've been happy with the Nitto Terra Grappler G3 in 265/65R17 on my GX.

Extremely happy with the tires after 6000mi. Towed my 3000lb racecar two weeks ago through hilly west virginia and they did an excellent job. Seem to have shaved off about 1/32 over the 6000 miles so i expect to easily get 30,000 mi out of them.
