I would post this in wanted but I'm afraid it does not get enough traffic and I need the bolt fast. It is the aft bolt on the oil cooler. It did have a sensor on it. I'm just worried about the bolt right now.

Call your local Toyota part department, or pull the bolt, have a machine shop match the type, then drill/tap it for your sensor.

wonder what the sensor was? oil temp?

worse comes to worse couldnt you by-pass the oil cooler? just join the hoses?

Hmm

Is the bolt broken, the sensor is obviously not the oil pressure senser, I see it under the oil filter, what exactly is the prob?

Okay MAF hooked me up with the bolt so that problem is solved. I actually took the bolt out and it's a special bolt. It has chanels that criss cross through it to allow oil to pass through. I believe it's for the oil temp sensor but that's just a guess. As far as bypassing the oil cooler I don't know if that is okay to do?

someone must have added the sensor.

I think(but maybe i am missing something important) you would be fine by-passing the cooler for a while, my 77 2f has no cooler, most if not all the early cruisers didn't, its a nice thing for sure but not needed(but good)

I just went out to the garage and looked at the 82 2F on the floor. It's got a pressure sender on the forward bolt, but nothing on the rear.

Interestingly, Specter lists bolts with holes (presumably for the sender) for 76-10/82. And bolts without holes from 76-8/92 (includes 3Fs but not 3FEs). And they list different senders for 76-83 2Fs depending on whether it had an oil cooler or not.

It looks like someone has mixed some parts on your motor since you have both senders. You should be able to just use a new bolt without the hole as long as the other sender works. There's no point bypassing the cooler by connecting hoses since they're coolant hoses from the water pump and are still sealed. You just need to seal up the oil galley.

FWIW, Specter sells the bolts used for $6. New ones are $15, but not in stock.

Good luck,
Eric

wow thanks for doing all that research. Once I get this bolt from MAF installed and the engine is in place I will let you know how it turned out. Next is figuring out where the igniter wiring for the electronic ignition hooks in to my '73 non electric ignition.

My 2/79 has the sensor on the rear bolt, I scavenged the sending unit from an 83 2F where it was mounted below the oil filter on the oil filter mounting bracket. I can't imagine oil pressure varying greatly within the system from either point. It seems to be in an easy place to access / more protected up by the oil filter...
