There was a little chatter about the "race" at Uwharrie: 4x4Cross at Uwharrie in May.

While it's "cool" there is an event in Uwharrie, I am worried about the trails getting torn up, and subsequent backlash against 4-wheeling in general by the Rangers.

Your thoughts?

Well one REALLY cool thing about this is the HEAD ranger at URE is a WHEELER!! Her and her husband have a really nice lifted Jeep and wheel!

The Rangers are 100% on board with the race, they are actively helping with the planning and something cool that may not have been talked about much is we are getting a man made rock garden on Falls Dam that will be a perm addition to the trails!! It will be an optional event for the weekend.

The event promoters are committing to making sure the trails are not damaged or trashed and the Rangers are working with them to make sure this really does happen!

I will be the first to tell you I am NERVOUS about the race and didn't think the Rangers would go for it, they had the final say of yea/nay! I think it is great to see the Rangers 100% behind the offroad folks now, for 20+ years we had a head ranger that tolerated us at best and did not allow any growth.

Now, new rock garden AND a new campground being installed on Falls Dam (this is primarily for the ATV crowd who cannot ride their atvs from Arrowhead to the trail system so they will now have a place to stay / that they can wheel from. Which is cool, leaves more room for us at Arrowhead!

BTW if you have not gotten reservations for the Arrowhead for the race weekend you may want to soon! I will be at site 36, should have the 80 and my camper with me!

shinton, wow, that's fantastic background! It helps allay my concerns!

Just a couple updates...the man made rock garden is now supposed to be built over at the Uwharrie stables which will now be the main location for the non-trail/race activities.

I believe there will be a rock garden there, mud bog, various live bands, vendors, food, etc. I am hoping it all goes off well. I am planning on being there on Fri/Sat / heading out early Sun morning or late Sat night. Taking our camper and we will be staying in Arrowhead!!
