Anyone have any leads to sources and/or recommendations regarding changing factory split rims to ________? THey are 5 bolt wheels. I'm looking to do a 2" lift and put on larger/wider tires. I understand that the 79 wheels maybe a little different - deeper or something. Looking for US source.

From what I understand the 7x series (newer 5 lug ones) do have a different backspace than the US 100 series, 2007 Tundra, FJ Cruiser etc. however non split rims are very common in OZ and middle East on the the 7x series. Check with Marv at SOR I am pretty sure he can get you some non-splits from 7x series.

Cheers,

Michael

Speedy Wheels Aust have a dealer in the US http://www.speedywheels.com/ and sell the Renegade style in a 16x8 with 5 lug for a 79 series. They are all out of stock due to their popularity but are restocking shortly.
Im not sure if they will sell the 79 series rims in the US but you can only ask.

Ishobie - nice truck. Thanks for the lead. What size tires on your truck? Did you lift it? and, if you did, what lift kit did you use? I was looking at the IronMan Suspension. I can get a 2" lift installed as follows (in AUD):

Performance c/w gas shocks - $1080
Performance c/w foam cell shocks $1200
Constant load c/w gas shocks - $1080
Constant load c/w foam cell shocks - $1200

Not sure if I should do it. Was thinking about just putting 33" on it as I understand they will fit without lifting. Any opinions or advice? BC

I have the OME 2 inch lift - it is awsome, the ride is very good - better than most 80 series I 've driven.

The rims are from ENS, they are only 6 inches wide so what you put on them is pretty limiting. The tallest I could find were 255/75/16's which give me a 33.4 inch tall tire. I wanted tall and skinny. I will probably buy a set of rims from OZ though so I can run a set of 35's and have a bigger set of options for tires, I am not a real fan of BFG MT's but they were the only thing I could get in that size.

I mainly put the new suspension on as the old suspension was pretty beat - and for a little lift of course. My challenge truck (79) will have a 6 inch lift.

Patagonia,

Did you replace them on a 79 series? I got an email back from Mickey T. Tech that they didn't know what I was talking about - no knowledge of the 79 series I think.

Rims

Hi FJ Gato
I went for the MT Classic II 16x8x6 with BFG MT 285/75/16 my troppy is a 1991 model that had a set of 16" split rims. I first went with a set of Michelins 7.50x16 but found them too narrow for the weight of the vehicle. I drive mostly backroads the wider tire gives me a better handling. I tried to attach pictures but couldn't too slow a connection! if you have an e-mail I can try.
saludos

The 91 troopy has a different wheel than the 79 series. Here is what I have learned, the older wheels (75 series) are 6 hole and the newer 79 is 5 hole. Also, the brake discs and calpers have been greatly increased in size so the 6 lug pattern wouldn't fit. Per the March/April 2007 issue of Toyota Trails (TLCA) - cover story about 70 series in Africa - the 5 hole wheels started in 1999.

Also, the offset is somehow different on the 5 hole wheel - deeper I believe to accomodate the larger brakes.

Hi, Can someone please tell me the widest tire that can be put on stock 16" split rim? I am thinking of a 255x85x16 but I am having trouble finding those here. I have a 2007 HZJ79R
