just thought i might aswell put back what i have gained from this forum and sum what i have learnt up
i got given my landcruiser with a blown gearbox x mining 280.000 clicks and got told factory toyota is the best thing you can do by the old man
well i started with a gearbox rebuild after about 2 days of pulling the big ugly bit of steel out, i realized you need to make or buy a transition jack just a few straps of a bit of plate . pulling the gearbox down i quickly realized it would of just been cheaper and easier to buy a brand new box from cov;s for 2200 after spending close to 1800 in parts. after you get the gearbox out REMOVE THE FLYWHEEL get it machined and replace spigot bearing! or you will be back there very quicky as i have learnt the hard way oh and the rear main (most of the time the rear main will need speedy sleve as it will wear a treanch in the crank. why your are there remove about 1'' of length of your shifter ..just to make her a bit smoother oh and use transaxle 75 in the box its what the landcruiser gods inteded
then i make the big step of painting the rims (sunrais) black
now your a real 4wd guru
after about 2 weeks i broke a front shackel doing jumps (covers ears dont abuse me to much ) so they where replaced with some big 3 pin anti inversion shackels with a 3'' lift and grease able
(make sure you have factory springs or the ruber spring eye bushes may be a differnt size ) at the end of the day it throws every thing out and the lift just isnt there my words of advice "only do it on the rear not front" but they where red so i felt kool for a week or 2
next came 2 racing seats
to fund these i sold my factory seats rails and all worst thing i did "those rails are so valuable" so after 3 months of messing around i got factory rails put on bucket seat for drivers side and put factory passenger bench seat back in it looks good and u spend alot of good quality time with hand in the middle persons crutch changing from 3-4th ( if i was smart from the start would of been easy but by far best improvement in ride with nice big racing bucket seat )
after doing a bit of compairing i realised factory landcruisers didnt come with 11 springs in the rear 9 in front and that may of been compromising my ride quality
"like riding diff on chassie" so after few weekends that was changed back to 5 front 4 rear "5 front isnt enough
she droped a bit after that " go for 6 but deff big differnce in ride
then came the big boy step good set of 35's at that point i didnt know the differnce between tyres and wheels so i snaged a set of bfg all terains pro comp ( hmm funny there the best tyres ever made
) tho mud tyres look good completly useless in perth aria ) that made a big differnce to fuel milage (surprisingly better ) but getting up to speed was a bit harder
shortly after tyres i decided to get rid of the red stained paint and go for a camoflage $600 spent and few cartons drunk with mates we finished painting her camo .... shouldnt of drank any thing paint felt like 40 grit sand paper ..but ...live and learn . kept that for 3 months but she decided to build a bit of a reputation so back to white (couldnt trick the neibours they still glair at me as i drive past
) use 2pac paint or dont bother doing it
next adventure exhaust was choped under the door most fun modification you can do ....for the first 2 hours ..then the groan of the 1hz diesel becomes like a hammer against ur head in stable revs going down the free way ...(cut it half way under the tray its sooo much better } but did notice a power increase less fuel usage and stayed cooler
The big day came did a course on diesel injection systems on cat trucks (westrac apprentice) next day the diesel injection pump was richened up BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE it was like i found those 2 extra cyl that make it a 6 cyl not 4 such a simple trick small flat head screw driver and 12 mm spanner (lock nut and screw ) turn the screw clockwise 1/4 of turn (black smoke is good ) but watch temp if she gets warm turn down ) that pulled those big dirty 35's into line she used less fuel again and made a better note
held revs for longer i know what your thinking (wow this must be like a corrola on fuel by now .) well its not but im getting 600 to a tank so its not 2 bad just gota keep them under 2000 revs
some where in there i put a big fuse in my tail lights ..cause they kept blowing (again dont yell at me i have lots of auto elecy mates they have all pulled enough piss to fill a carton ) so that caused a electrical fire ...req a rewire all under dash ..(that hurt the budget )
going to clean the big girl i thought i might take the tray of
me and 3 mates couldnt lift it so was decided it needed to be removed (turns out the factory trays weigh 3-500kg (steal)
so that was replaced with a light weight tray made with bare esentuals
well im going to bed ill finish this of later
