Hi all,

I stumbled across a great deal on these military surplus Thales broadband antennas today at a garage sale.

I am wondering how effective one would be at replacing my stock/OEM antenna in my FZJ80.

Thales: 1600500-1, Handheld, 13-inch Broadband Whip Antenna; TNC connector; 8W maximum; 20 m immersible general purpose handheld antenna providing solid performance for all waveforms from 90-512 MHz.

Any insights appreciated!

Bump. Received the TNC coax fitting today. I'll connect it up and report back

American commercial FM broadcasts are all between 87.9 to 107.9 MHz., i.e. in the neighborhood of 3 Meters wavelength. so you're going to be on the far low end of the bandwidth the antenna is advertised for. A 1/4-wave antenna for 3 Meters would be about 30" long. That one may still be some fraction of a resonant multiple and it may work OK, but I wouldn't expect miracles.

If the coat hanger were about 30" long un-wound, it might well be. :)

Alright! I will compare the 30" coat hanger to the garage sale specials!
