How many miles has your 3B done? (1 Viewer)

Do you really believe a 1HZ is just as reliable as an old slow ass 3B?

cause honestly I kinda have my doubts...

Not that I know much about them or have ever driven one...

I believe they are for sure, I have talked to many mining ops/mechanics (and visited mines) and they love the 1HZ, but they still have a soft spot for the 3b - many kept the 3b's out of the trucks when the frames and bodies rusted away - just couldn't part with the 3b that was still a strong runner. Most 1HZ's do get regular maintenance like someone said, but it all depends on the mine and if the vehicles are lease or under contract. Some mines have only 1-2 HZJ7X's and just do the minimums.

One mine that I bought alot of stuff from closed, they flooded their one section with 4 serviceable 3's, 1 pz and acouple of 1hZ's, with a ton of parts as well - crates of stuff - new windshield frames, tranny's etc etc. Wish I got to them before that happened.

Low oil pressure or low compression - rebuild.

Leaky - gasket set overhaul.

No one ever talks about reringing 3Bs here though, which is something I have been considering for mine since it could be done in a weekend and hopefully help with my oil consumption and significant blowby. Its attractive for me since my mains and conrod bearings are new, and I've had the head off enough times to know that the bores look good.
Mine didn't lose oil, it didn't lose compression and it didn't smoke, and as far as I've seen it didn't lose water, and 6 months after a body restoration, where I didn't open the engine, a few days after a 200km trip, the head burned out gasket, on a 15min trip I turned it off and it was sending water to the ground... I rebuild the head as I left the block the same, this happened with 475k and at the moment it has 495. It continues to run and on the road it averages 11L. A bj45 from 1982, I love this 3b engine

the reason i ask is how, unless they know the truck from new, can you be sure no work has been done to the engine. 3Bs usually need a refresher or rebuild around 500,000 and to say one has gone 1.3 mil makes me ... wonder.

that is all.
Exactly mine had blown head gasket with 475k without any reason, maybe the gasket was original and old
