How do I get under the windcreen cowl?

Hey people,

Working on my partners HJ60 removing rust and there's a bit under the cowl behind the wiper motor. Previous vehicles ive worked on had bolts to remove the cowl but from what i can see there is no way of removing it? Is it removable once the windscreen is removed? I've removed rust and patched the firewall behind the motor for now but in future i'd like to get behind it and we'll be removing the windcreen at some point to finish the inner a pillars/windcreen surround.

There isnt really anway to access it except for the plates bolted over the wiper motor access holes. The other option is pull the dash and everything interior wise when you remove the windshield

Spewin.... I realised after i posted that it's one piece into the a pillar, so even if i pull the dash i wont get access as its in the vent/leaf gaurd turret thingamajig.. major design flaw!!

Yeah I mean if you have the fab skills to lop out the rust it probably would be well within your skills to either cut the cowl and re-patch it in after or ignore it. There is a lot of metal on the firewall but YMMV. I had a good chunk of rust on my A-pillar and it was still pretty structurally sound.

It's more a pedantic/future proofing thing so it doesnt grow. I've replaced the passeger b pillar as well as a lot of roof sections so knowing its there is a little irk, but ill get to it one day ☺

Yeah, it is a scheduling and sacrifice issue.

'when the windshield comes out, that's when I'll fix that rust'
