Hi,
So Marcin, Ania and myself decided to head up on Saturday morning, Dan and the rest of the group went on Friday evening. The destination was Sloquet Hot springs. The washout on Harrison West FSR has not been fixed but there is a way around it, we started to encounter a bit of snow and then got a point where it finally became a pain in the a&s. We saw Dan's tracks from the night before and a little tug here and there between Marcin's truck and mine and we managed to plow enough snow with the diffs to get through. After that it was clear sailing until the Sloquet trail where about half way up the snow came back. We ended up running into few guys with a Dodge Ram and a Toy truck and also found a couple from Washington in a stock Nissan 4X4 truck with street tires. the Nissan was of course stuck in about 2 feet of snow and not going anywhere. We finally managed to move the Nissan out of everyones way and let us pass. The progress was slow and painful, go 10 feet, back up and do it again. Around 4pm (we left at 9:30 from the Sasquatch Inn) we decided to turn around in the same spot as Dan and head to our camping spot. Once we got to the In-shuck-in FSR it was clear sailing again, until a funny noise in the back of my truck made me pull over. It was raining, dark and we were 4 km from camp so I looked quickly, found nothing obvious so we kept going - slower. Once at camp I found out that rust managed to win against my rear strut mount and it no longer was attached to the vehicle. We were tired and hungry so we decided to leave it till the morning. Marcin found out that 1 of his glow plugs is dead, I removed the rear struts and found that there is a mouse that moved into my truck over night. We met up with Dan and exchanged our stories and headed back home.

Other then not making it to the hot springs the trip was good and entertaining.

I hate rust  .

How far up the sloquet fsr did you get before you got stuck? How deep was the snow at that point? I have a couple more tours coming up to the skookum HS and trying to figure out when sloquet will be accessible for variety. I hate getting stuck with tourists on board.

ps. I have heard from McEwans's in Pemberton (who know the mayor, Mr. Sturdy) that the washed out bridge to Meager will FINALLY be rebuilt this summer. The design plans have been finalized. But then again, I heard that last spring as well, so I'm not counting on it.

pss. The Skookumchuck HS have been bought by the Federal Govt. for eventual transfer to the Skatin Band (a couple of years according to McEwan). In the meantime access is expected to remain as before. No firm plans as yet as to what the Skatin band will do with them.

well my trip report will pretty much be the same as Mats for the first while.

We(3 trucks) left the squatch at 6pm friday night. hit the deep snow around 8ish. After towing a stock bj60 for 2 hours we were finally out. As Mat said the snow wasnt letting up at sloquet. We plowed and plowed. At 230am we called it a night and set up camp for the night at sloquet trailhead.

Saturday morning was off to a good start. nice weather and no snow on the road. we made it to Skookemchuck around noon. We set up camp and relaxed by the river waiting for the day users to leave the tubs. late afdternoon I jumped on the CB to see if I could magically find Mat and Marcin. Wow, I actually did. they were about 10k away and on the other side of the river. A cb Antenna that actually works, imagine that. Unfortuatly they coulnd meet up. So we got drunk and went in the tubs;p

Sunday morning we took off to meet up with mat and MArcin. We met at their cabin on Lilloet lake and headded to Pemberton. After airing up and fueling up we hit the pub and went our seperate ways.

good weekend.

Dan

We managed to get within about 3 Km or so of the hot springs, then the snow got about 3 feet deep. If we were planning on staying there the night we might have continued on but since time was tight and we already wasted most of the day there was no point. The worst part about was it did not seem to matter what you were driving and what size of tires, everyone got stuck sooner or later and had to be pulled or pushed.

Well I warned you's there was still deep snow up there :)

Was anyone using ice chains (the ones with the big v-bars)? I've found them to be pretty good in the deep snow. You kinda feel (and sound) like a tank. But even with ice chains once the snow is past your axles you are pretty much done.

Chains ? I only use those for towing people :D . Since I got my new tires I have not had a chance to get that feature yet. Personally when it comes to snow I find that with or without chains if you are dragging your diff your screwed.
Oh well, wait a month and try it again.
