Anybody put hood pins on thier pig? If so please post a pic or description with what you used. If I'm going over old material a link would be good too.

I have hood that does not want to stay closed. Theres two options

1) Latches on sides like what wrandler Tj's or some 40's
2) Pins that go through the hood with clips like the ones used on old muscle cars

Any thoughts fellow knights?

Just my .02 cents, but I'd try to track down the cause of the hood not wanting to behave.

Don't listen to a word that OregonCruzer says, Death! What you should do is track down the cause of your hood not wanting to close. Probably your hinges. Here is what you should do, set the hood down without latching it. Look to see how that pin lines up to the latch. Report back.

excellent advice

To OregonCruzer,rsbcruiser:

Your advice is second to none, no doubt. The quick and easy story summing up this mess is the suspension shop that let the hood fly up on a test drive and ever since since then, hood and hinges have been switched out and nothing seems to keep it down.

I played with moving the hood around on the hinges, trying all combinations between new hood, new hinges, and the old stuff. I took it back to the suspension shop to have them fix it and they say its fixed. I get 2 miles down the road driving home, :censor: opens right back up.

I've come to terms that I would rather spend the time putting on some hood pins or latches, If I can't trust it on the street I sure as hell can't trust it off road. Anyone have some pics of this on thier Pig? I can't be the first one to do this to a 55...

well, in that case...I'd go with whatever style you like better and defer to those who no doubt have done this mod

I feel your pain, Death. I have been through the same issue. I am tuning a hinge today. I will take pictures and show you how I fixed this problem. I think fixing the root cause will be easier than adding pins.

I would think that 40 style hooks would be the easiest since there is less of an alignment issue than with hood pins, and if your hood is already wonky, it could be a problem. The only potential issue is, is there enough of a lip on the hood to mount the hooks. It seems there would be plenty of space on the body to mount the catch.

The discontinued windshield hook would work the best:

But the lower one would probably work as well. The catch would likely have to be fabed.

I don't think the hooks would look too out of place either.

I just took a shot at fixing my hood realignment issue Death. O boy, forgot what a hassle that is. Anyways, I will start a thread on this subject soon. Starting to think those fj 40 hood latches are not that bad of an idea. Did I say what a hassle this is yet?
