Oops, just broke the wind deflector on the front of the hood. It's been there a while now, in fact it was there since new - a '97 40th Ed. It looks like some sort of smoky acrylic.
Is this a Toyota part or aftermarket? The tab & screw mounting looks aftermarket to me.
Are there some better than others?
It's time to get a couple of new gas shocks for the hood as well.
Otherwise, 240K miles and doing fine.

There are aftermarket, they did not impress me. Mine broke 6 months ago and like yours, it was original. I got an acrylic shop to repair it and I think they did an outstanding job. From the front you see nothing, from the back there is a carefully blended in reinforcement strip.

I am not certain the bug deflector is essential, but I did not want to be the one to put it in the bin.

Just FYI, my crack owed its origins to a body shop that got the clever idea to replace a screw with washer they lost with a small self tapping screw that allowed no motion.

I found that a fender well screw from a BMW M-39(?) was a direct replacement. I still have a handful if anyone wants one or two.

I looked pretty extensively at replacements for the deflector and found nothing exciting.

Yeah, mine had TOYOTA on it, and was accompanied by a sunroof wind deflector with TOYOTA on it. (Both came with the truck when I purchased it.) The hood deflector finally died after saving my windshield several times from flying rocks. Before it died, it looked like something was chewing on it. I had to remove the sunroof deflector when I installed the Prinsu roof rack, since it became unnecessary.
