Since the season is upon us, thought I'd pass on some info. Catalytic converter theft is still occurring, just happened last weekend at the Bass Pro in Olathe from a Tundra. The Tundras, Tacomas & late model 4runners are targets, so now's the time to jutify parking in the garage, or full belly skids :D

Among other things, take special precautions this season by checking lights, locks, booby-traps, and keeping things out of sight (out of mind). And please, don't post on facebook that you'll be gone!

So be safe and stay alert, because the world needs more lerts. And from the KC Star, some extra common sense info..

Scam Season Has Arrived
Consumer and financial organizations are alerting cyber consumers to be on guard, whether using their home or work computers, when shopping on line. Users who are unaware of fake phishing, Trojan infections, phony gift cards, or tweet traps may need to learn in a hurry the many ways online purchasing can go awry. Here’s advice from experts in risk management:

Be sure your anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall software are up to date.

Look for an unbroken key or padlock at the bottom of your Web browser page before using any
online shopping site.

When asked for pay information, be sure the beginning of the URL address changes from http to shttp or https. (The s indicates the information is secure.)

During the holidays, fake charities appear whose sole purpose is to get access to your credit card information. Always check before giving to make sure the charity is legitimate.

Never give out your bank account number or your social security number.

Keep your travel plans and purchases private. “Digital burglars” could end up with your purchases under their trees.

Keep a close eye on your bank statements and credit card activity to verify that all transactions are yours. Print out online receipts, and keep a paper trail of in-store and online purchases.

Be careful about downloading holiday “wallpaper” or other festive applications. Some are created specifically to infect computers.

There are always people determined to take what you’ve worked for. Use caution in any shopping situation, whether online or in-store. (Information from The KC Star, 11-28-09)
