We just bought a 1985 BJ 70 3B Diesel. The thing is in great shape, however there is an annoying squeal coming from the clutch assist housing. I think it is a vacuum leak from the vacuum assist assembly. Does anyone have any experience with this part? Thanks.

I guess it is a BJ70.
take the vacuum line off the clutch booster. the clutch pedal should be much harder to push, and the squeal should be gone (if it is that booster).

Thanks for the reply. Ya, that gets rid of it, I am hoping that someone knows if i need to change the piston or the booster kit. And yes it is a BJ70!!! Let's just say I was tired.

the booster kits are really hard to get and insanely expensive. what you could do is try to get a good booster from a JDM 70 or 60 series. the base is not the same, but the booster is-you have to unbolt the booster and bolt it to your base, then you'll be fine.
chances are the G&S have one. they also show up on ebay autralia a lot.

The JDM RHD BJ71 and 74s we have been parting out have the clutch booster on the interior side of the firewall, not engine side ala Canadian market BJ70. So not likely something we have on hand.
Ya, insane is right. I priced one about 5 years back and it was $800 or so. OUCH!

Maybe I am missing something simple here, but what is the G&S?
