Hello,

I have a “new to me” 1987 HJ60 and it seems to running well.

It has a 2H (non turbo) and has 300,000KMs.

I just installed a pryo and was wondering on what sort of EGT's I should expect on a NA diesel engine. (The Pyro is installed on the manifold at the top of the downtube section .)

When just cruising down the highway (100KM/H) it reads 800F (425c)
When floored or going up a hill it climbs to 1000 – 1050F (565C)

Is this normal?

Thoughts?

Thanks

Mike

I never had a pyro prior to fitting a turbo on my 2H but I would say those numbers are normal and of no concern.

You can sustain 1200 F where you are measuring your egt's so you have room to turn up your fuel, IMO.

Turbo's work wonders for cooling off the EGT's :D

Get the nozzles re done first so it does not smoke like a freight train with the stock fuel setting. Then turn the fuel back to the stock setting and see how it does from there.

In my NA 3B, I cruise the city streets at about 550, highway at 750-800, and climbing hills I can easily hit 1200 if I'm not careful.

So, you're in the ballpark.

My EGT's are directly connected to the motion in my right foot!

I read nothing of smoke in the original post and I see no reason to go spend money on injector service if there are no smoke issues. If he is just daily driving this truck and is happy with performance, just drive it, IMO.

If he wants a little more go, there is room for fuel increase, especially because there is an egt fitted.

Of course, if money is no concern, go for it. :D

With the stock fuel setting it smoked like a Coal burning train, I cut of the factory tie wire and turned it down to get though aircare (worked). I then added fuel (power) back to the stock setting but the smoke was excessive so we turned it down 1/2 a turn to get it running clean (where its set now).

This is the Silver truck we brought back as part of the Island deal last month, Mike bought it.

Jeremy is right, it smoked pretty good down the highway and it seemed to get a little hot on the Factory Water Temp Gauge.
We backed off the fuel a 1/2 turn and it stopped smoking and the water temp seem to be in check.

I installed a Pyro just to see where I was at with temps and I do plan to take it for longer excursions.
Never owning a diesel before and not knowing the history of the truck I want to make it lasts since it is a daily driver (70KM per day) and is eventually going to be a trail rig.
I'm ultimately looking for longevity and fuel mileage.

I like this 60, seems more like a LC to me than my FJ80. I just want to make it last.

I was just curious on what people opinions on was on my EGT's
