What are the differences (if any) between an HJ47 Troopie and FJ60 axels and 3rd members? Not counting gear ratio.

I know the FJ60 is approximately 3" wider over all and will have discs on the front. Any other differences?

I assume you're not talking about figure-skating moves ("axel") ;p; the only difference in the axles between these series is in the width.

Both rear axles were full floaters, each coming with the later-style 4-bolt flanges. The first couple of years of HJ47 came with drums all around, however the discs were available (whether stock or as an option I don't know) in '83 and '84 models of HJ47. The width difference between 40 series and 60 series axles is 9 cm. It is easy to retrofit discs to the front axle of a drum braked HJ47 front. Retrofitting disc to the rear is pretty much a hassle though with the four-bolt flange. On my truck, I swapped my rear FF axle out for an early type FF, with 8-bolt flange so I could do the disc conversion easily. The axle shafts are interchangeable between early and late FF axles.

Third members are identical and are interchangeable between the two series, and limited slip diffs were optional in either series.

Thanks Henry James,

Would the HJ45 Troopie have the 4 or 8 bolt flange?

Could a 84' FJ60 front disc set up be swapped/bolted to a HJ45/47 front axle?
