Maybe I am just being paranoid. The past weekend I took my 96 LX for a spin. It hadn't been driven for two weeks or more. I noticed a high pitch noise, a kind of like a jet engine taking off, and it is only noticeable when hard accelerating, and the noise is not obvious at all (IE. I had to really listening in order to hear it), though I don't recall I ever heard it before. Anyway had similar experience?

My LX450 does this and I have read here that it is quite common and nothing to worry about.

its your truck whining that you're not driving her enough :p either that..or someone accidentally stuffed a turbocharger in there. :p

ok...i have nothing relevant to add, other than its probably nothing. wind noise? is it apparent only under load? did you try under the hood, and blipping the throttle body by hand to see if you can determine where its coming from?

I would begin with a visual inspection of the exhaust pipe for any cracks or fractures.
Are you running the factory resonator?

Hmmm. Haven't check under the hood yet. :o. Will try it this weekend...

Good point. The exhaust looks pretty nasty, and yes, I am running a factory resonator.

My radio makes that noise when its on but turned all the way down... sounds like a turbo. :)

I have this same issue as well. Mine is not the famous 3000+ rpm exhaust whistle, which I also have. Mine is based on throttle position. When I open the throttle to a certain point, the whistle starts. It does not really change in pitch as rpms change. I have yet to solve it, but I have not really tried either. It doesn't seem to affect anything, so I am letting it slide for now.

I am thinking an exhaust leak/crack (in the y-pipe or in cat fittings), bad vacuum hose, or something involving the throttle body. I have P0401 too. Hopefully when I finally address that, the whistle will go away.

Mine does it too. I find it comforting.

my 97 lx450 does the same when accelerating....Toyota just did a full service and nothing found in the exhaust system...guess the noise is normal part of the engine operation

Belt tension pulley bearings

It has an awesome, 18 wheeler, turbo supercharger, sound to it. I think it's cool.

I took the v belts off, and adjust them again, but when I was driving, the sound goes with the engine rpm... But it nos not there when I just rev it :( : still looking...

I had a high pitched whine in mine.. until I got rid off my ex! lololol!!! hahaha!!! Oh god, oh god!.. Whew! I slay me.

haha. Funny you should say that, come to think of it my ex reminds me of the cdl-engaged-turning-corners sound... I'd much rather have the cdl engaged and put up w that noise than have her in my LC.

in regards to this high pitch noise when accellarating... I had that too... sounded like an effin go-cart. It's the bearing in my AC idler pulley. Not having the AC belt on removes the noise.

Mine does it as does my sisters. Especially at 3k+. It always puts a smile on my face.
