hey guys i did an oil change yesterday and now my oil pressure is right up, if it were a tacho id say its sitting on redline. i noticed the wire that clips onto the bottom of the oil filter (imm guessing the pressure sensor) came off, so i cleaned the contacts and put it back on the little stub on the bottom of the oil filter. but now i have super high oil pressure.

what causes high oil pressure? thick oil? a blockage? or should there be high oil pressure?

dont think thick oil would make such a big difference, i use penrite HPR 50 which i consider to be a heavy oil and my oil psi is around 50 at idle and 60 at higher rpm, my guess its to do with the sensor or the connection.....

mine is a single wire connection, when i remove the connector from the oil filter the pressure gauge drops away completely... i'm not positive the gauge works either but i thought it was low before i did the oil change??? will it have any adverse effects if i run with high oil pressure?? im thinking seals/gaskets may be 'tested' by the high pressure (where does the needle it sit normally?)???? and im not so sure i want to test them....... is there a way i can check the pressure (get a psi reading) easily? maybe put a pressure gauge on the dip stick hole???

from memory the needle sits a little bit past halfway, i wasnt really happy with my stocko oil psi gauge so i bought a mechanical speco one which cost around $45 and it comes with all the fittings so you can adapt it to the stock location on the engine, did the same for my water temp and volts too, but then i do have a ford engine so chances are the senders on the ford engine and the stock toyota gauges werent calibrated to one-another???, not really sure of any other ways of getting a accurate oil psi reading though....
