I think you're correct on the quality of modern lubricants @77mustard40, but not being an expert in the subject I get kind of swayed by the multitude of opinions found here on 'Mud. I'm not exactly sure why a flat tappet motor needs more zinc and whatnot, and I figured the cost of the more premium high-ZDDP oils was pretty minor considering the rest of money I've poured into the truck thus far.

@DuxTom I was considering the VR1 20w50 oil before going w/ the Lucas. The primary reason I decided not to go w/ VR1 was because it is listed as a racing oil, and a lot of comments here on Mud suggest that racing oils are designed to perform well over a short period of time and may degrade quickly. I don't know how much/quickly the oil would degrade in a tractor engine that isn't raced, but caution got the better of me. ADHD what it is and all, I'm more likely to chase after big mods / projects than routine maintenance. Not a smart thing, just the way Im wired.

Thanks… did you mean T4 15w-40? I’m not seeing a 5w-40 in the T4. Only a Rotella 5w-40 in the fully synthetic T6. Additionally which zddp additive do you like and how much? Thanks!!!
