Also, are there any other toyota models with HID headlights that might work in the FJ?
According to Sylvania the headlights are:
2007 TOYOTA FJ Cruiser
High & low beam headlamp
9003
9003ST Silverstar High Performance Lighting: The Whiter and Brighter Halogen
9003XV XtraVision Halogen Upgrade: Up to 30% Brighter
9003CB Cool Blue Halogen Upgrade: White Hot; Super Cool; 100% Street Legal
You could definitely do a projector retrofit yourself, but there are going to be compliance issues. Also, real HID systems have autolevellers, to prevent glare as the load in your vehicle changes. If you do a web wide search you will find some excellent writeups that show you what's involved. Also, I think people on this forum are reluctant to post something that's not entirely "legal" although I think if properly done, it would be fine. The problems mainly come from people putting rebased HID bulbs into lenses designed for halogen bulbs. Result: horrific glare (in most cases).
