I have looked on the net but as yet not found one, if anyone does see a suitable temperature reader with an alarm, either wired or wireless please let me know.

Greddy makes a nice one. Kinda spendy but worth it for the peace of mind.

It has the provision for triggering any type of external audible alarm. It has a built-in flashing red LED. The alarm temp can be set to whatever you want. It has a resetable memory so you can display your peak temp.

It is not wireless and the version pictured reads degrees-Celcius. It is a quality unit. See turbocruiser's install for an easy way to hook it to your engine. A couple of us have tapped the water neck and permanently mounted the probe.

It's really ironic that I got rid of my Toyota 4X4 surf because I had the dreaded head gasket go on me, cost me £1000 and that was with me doing all the work, when the head gasket goes on a surf the head has to be changed aswell as the head cracks across the exhaust valves.

I sold it straight away, and thought I would buy a Land cruiser because they are bullit proof engines, now I keep reading about the dreaded HG problems with my LC makes me feel quite sick, it's done 115k so could go at anytime I suppose :-)

Dude get a HDJ-80/81. Diesel!
