Just checking in. Got another rig I am working on. Hard times with these budget cuts so had to cut back. Got an 85 that will be my dd/rig.hunting/rig. Needs some TLC. Check out wanted add/for sale If yall got any 84-88 parts let me know. Just wanted to say high and hope things going good. Maybe this fall I will be able to wheel if I can get this thing little further along. Any good parts for free cheap let me know..:) Been a while but ready to wheel.

I wish I could. Short notice with having a baby or lack of baby sitter, no tow rig, and no trailer. All are obtainable but not in 24hrs...:crybaby:. Would love to see what it could do with the 4inch crap lift, stock gears, and 33x13.50 swampers. It does ok but needs a good bit before I could wheel it. Like brake lines that are not maxed out and a suspension in the front that actually moves. I already pee blood from hitting bumps in the road around town could only imagine what it would feel like on the trail. Has a fairly new rebuilt motor thats pretty strong but there were some corners cut with other parts of the truck//ie bondo bed to cover rust everywhere in the bed, bondo to fill a big dent in the door..no mirrors on it and really cool almost solid black tinted tail lights that are the same color as the truck. The kid had 4inch suspension and 3in BL on it and 35's when I got it because he said "it couldnt turn 38.5 swampers so had to step down to 35s"......:hillbilly:. Guess he had high expectations for a 22r and 4.10 gears. That right there should tell you what I am starting with. Solid platform to build but not ready for real trails. Got it down to just the suspension and the 33s. Needs a brake job and new lines to be able to flex it and it would probably do ok but trying to do a reliable budget build. Armor, winch, RUF, X over, 63's, geared locked and some x case gears or duals. Throw in the ham and cb and go through all the wear items, and charge the ac.

After the recent build up of my brother in laws truck,,63s,new shocks, bumper, winch, rebuilt front end has me ready to get to work. Just need some free/ cheap parts.

Also may have a new occasional wheeling buddy. Ran down a 85 single cab LB that had been bobbed and on 36's. had all the goodies ready to hit some real trails. He has never had it actually wheeling but wants to go. Nice truck..geared,locked, suspension.

So everyone please keeps eyes open for anything I could use to build the truck that is cheap or free. Had a really good deal on EFI swap and another case for duals but had some bad luck and the money for it went elsewhere.

Lets see some pictures of this Beauty!!!!! Glad to see your still alive and Missing us!!!!

These have to be the stiffest springs ever. I hardly move it when sitting on the bumper trying to move the front. Dont help the 90* shackle angle up front. Got bored and was going for a camo paint job but didnt like the way it came out so its green now. Nice to be able to change the color of your truck for bout $50..:hillbilly:

Ted I missed out on the truck I sent pics to you of. The guy had to go out of town last minute the day I was going up. He was gone about a week for work and while he was gone he got a promotion and decided to keep the truck. That one already had suspension,x over, 4.88s, 36 Iroks, tube bed, winch, etc..on pane. Hated I dragged my feet on it and lost it. If I would of went up the week before I would be wheeling right now.

50 bucks?! You musta bought the expensive paint! :hillbilly:

I'm digging the truck! My front springs were the same way. Pretty much no flex at all. Mine were just super worn out. They also looked like they had an add-a-leaf or two over the years. What are you going to do for the suspension? Rear up front and ?? in the back?

P.S. I wheeled mine with the super hard springs, POS 4 speed, AND the always dying 20R. Just saying...

wasn't meant to be then. Looks like you have a good start and finally something you can really wheel. Hopelfully you can get it out soon.

FYI--the Pig Roast is very soon and about as close to you as we're gonna get so pack up the kids, wife and those other yahoos down there and come on up. :steer:

Its wheelable dont get me wrong. The springs flex OK just ride extremely rough. The brakes lines need upgraded. The stockers are on it and pretty much stretched out and will probably break if I flexed it out too much. The paint was bout $3.25 a can plus some tape, sand paper. Gotta get some paint thinner and get the lenses clean and the black tint of them. Ive wheeled it a little around here after I traded the 35 bfg ats for the swampers. Repainted the bumper and gonna do some oldschool nose art teeth from a WWII style plane to break up the green some.

Plans are:
RUF/63's and x over..keeping it low as I can(3-4" lift) while having decent uptravel...rather cut to fit
5.29's and lunch box lockers..4.7's or duals in x-case depending on what I can find...not sure if the 4.7s would be too low for east coast wheeling.
Bumpers, sliders, winch
New doors and bed and turning my current doors into half doors.
35-36" tires when these wear out. Thinking either Pitbull Radial Rockers, or some type of radial swamper. Maybe
36" SX's depending on how long I can make these last.
DIY beadlocks and some upgraded front axles..longs or dirty 30s.
Go through all bearings/seals etc.

Want everything done right. I have a 19 month old daughter we want to take wheeling, camping, hunting and fishing. So next year around tax time I am going to be on the look out for a really clean SA first gen 4Runner I can swap everything into. Its gonna be a DD so want to find a clean one that is pretty much stock and untouched and have something I can atleast keep the inside somewhat nice for the family and it be reliable. Figure if I build my truck by the time my daughter is ready to wheel I can more or less just swap the parts to the 4Runner in a weekend or 2

Sounds like a plan. Pretty much the same thing I'm doing minus the 4Runner part. I've already done the rear up front, Taco springs in rear, hi steer, 5-speed, duals, 37s, etc.

I also have a daughter who I want to take wheeling someday. We bought my wife a 4wd v8 4Runner that I plan to use for light family wheeling and camping though. My mini is more for when I wanna do something a little more reckless (or fun as we normally call it :hillbilly:).

If I was going to start over from scratch I would def have bought a first gen 4Runner. The extra row of seats, tons of extra room, and removable top are where it's at. Gotta get the early solid axle version though.

You should try to get that beast out to D-Town for the pig roast like Ted says. We are not bringing our daughter tho. She's still a little too young.

Where abouts you live Daniel? In mid GA area? WR/Bonaire/Kathleen area? Need to get together and go check out some places back around the river on the WMA's. Theres alot of two tracks back on nthem lands. Got a couple folks in this area that would probably be down. My new buddy with the bobbed LWB 84 on 36's that would probably be up for a little riding if hes got time.

Sam---how does the 22r turn those 37's? What kind of tire you running? Drove a truck with 36" swampers with 5.29's and it felt good. Only got it into third or 4th gear at maybe 40-45 mph. He said he can cruise in 5th no problem even small hills. Obviously gotta down shift on a bigger hill, but heck I had to do that with my 01 2.7 Taco with 255/85/16's. Since its gonna be a DD there arent alot of 36" tires I like. The radial rockers I like are 35 and 37's I believe which tun pretty true. Got the Iroks which I am not sure one, the TSL radial doesnt seem like a real swamper if that makes sense.

I just bought a set of KM2s off craigslist. I wasn't really looking for a specific tire. I just had a size and stumbled across those. I don't know how well the 22RE is going to turn them but with the dual cases I don't think it will be a problem. I haven't actually run them yet. The Pig Roast will be my first chance to test it out. I don't ever drive mine on the street either so cruising 45 or 50 is very unlikely.

For a street truck I would def stay away from the TSLs. They wear out really fast from what I've seen. I'd probably go with something more like an AT or MT. Duratracs are very popular and everyone I know that has them loves them. I also know a few people that have run the Nitto Terra Grappler but they don't do any off-roading so I'm not sure if they are a good dual purpose tire.

I'm in Macon. Around where 75 and 16 meet. I'll be tinkering with the truck this weekend if you want to come by..... might have a few beers too.

Yeah I know all about tire wear. Had a bunch. I was more worried with turning em on the street. I hate the power with 33's and stock gearing but want something 35" atleast whether if its a 37 that measures short or a 35 that measures true. He had 36" SX which seem to measure pretty true. I will probably end up with a rocker radial or something. It will def be a MT. Not doing any AT's. Might end up with a BFG or MT/R. Really like the Rocker Radials and seems like they hold up good for a MT....maybe 2 sets of wheels..BL with trail tires and maybe a aluminum wheel with a light weight MT on it for everyday stuff since we hunt, fish and just like being in the woods. Just found out we are having another baby so need to get something with a back seat soon. Might try to find a built rig....gotta figure something out..baby will be here in Octoberish if everything goes ok.

Went did a little wheeling this past week. Also Zack tested his new 63 Chevy swap which work very well considering the front IFS doesnt flex for crap..heres a few pics...my tire was about 3' off the ground on that wall...cant wait to see what it will do with a real suspension, gears, and lockers..didnt quite fit in there and just rode up the wall..the Swampers only had a couple inches of tire holding the whole side of the truck up...also went through some very swampy mud..Haley hit the first spot and worked the truck good to get through it. Zack wanted to test his new winch so I told him to give me a minute and I would see what I could do..pics show the story.
