I'm in Philly for the summer and found another LX that I'd like to get and build like my old one. Being from Texas, I've never had to worry about any rust at all. The truck I'm looking at looks fantastic, until I get underneath it. Here are some quick snaps:

I'm being told that this isn't that bad at all and that it won't be a problem (especially since I'll be bringing the truck south with me when I return to TX). However, I've never had to deal with any and am thinking this is a bad deal and that I need to walk away.

What say y'all?

Being from Maine originally I thought all truck came with a 1/4" of rust scale from the factory...... then I ended up in Texas..... the 91' 80 I bought was cleaner then my dads' one year old F150 in Maine.... if it's a long-term hold I'd look at a southern rig, maybe FL or even GA ......or fly home for the weekend...... lot's here ....

while it can be dealt with, if your going to do lot's of mods it going to mean a ton of extra work.... Far better to spend some extra time chasing down a cleaner rig..... service history also would be the other factor IMHO....

good luck - happy to look at rigs in H-town if you need me to....

The car I brought to Philly to drive is being eaten alive by these horrid roads. My relaxed truck find has been pushed up as I'd love to be driving it instead of my current car.

My other issue is I'm looking for a venerable needle in a haystack. I want a Crystal White 06 or 07 with tan interior and good history. At this point, as I said in my WTB post, I'll pay a finders fee if a lead turns into a purchase.

E, I'll shoot you another PM. I've got an email to one on CL in Houston, but I don't have high hopes for it as the add is significantly less than stellar.

Short answer is y'all are right. I don't want any rust ;)

Rust only gets worse, never better. Wit rust it's not what you can see but what you can't see. Most would keep looking. You decide.

Yeah man that's pretty rusty, I would suggest you walk away. I come from a navy family so I'm not squeamish about some surface rust, but this is getting pretty close to the limit of being manageable.
