Does anyone here know of a mechanic in the southern WI area who can wire a CDL switch into an FZJ80?

I think I can handle removing the wire from the harness. But I'm pretty sure a huge fire would result from my trying to install/wire a manual CDL switch.

I can procure the hardware if need be...

Thanks for any help. Hopefully I can get it done before Labor (Off-Roading in the U.P.) Day!

One more thing (I know, I'm hijacking my own thread here...). Does anyone know if a lubricant (grease? silicone?) is necessary for the rubber bushings on OME steering stabilizer?

Thanks again!

4LLC might be able to help you out. works at hesser toyota in Janesville. Plus I had to post this to get my count off of the previous post count:D

there is NO wiring involved to install the switch...only to modify the 7-pin connector

buy the switch
pull off the dash
find the capped connector
find an appropriate dash opening...install switch
attach wiring
reassemble dash

switch install took a few minutes....now, the 7-pin mod is SEPARATE

honestly, unless you wanna switch on and off the CDL for high range or for low range and boating, it's not necessary....the CDL automatically engages when you lock in low range, and is REQUIRED for diff locks to activate...

the switch and 7-pin is nice for using low to move a boat around....or rare wheelin times....or for high range in snow at speed....but for offroad use you MUST have the CDL on (which is automatic) or you risk t-case heat problems and slipping...

Holy ****! I guess that answers all of my questions! Thanks, Woody.

It sounds like it should be a snap once I figure out which connector/cover hooks up the CDL. Much easier than I thought...
:hillbilly:

"...or for high range in snow at speed..."

You hit the nail on the head here!^ It sure makes dirift-bustin' fun! It also helps in long stretches of deep, uneven sand. (Drop the hammer and hope for floatation!)

Thanks, again!

(Glad to help, webelk6. I think I saw a sunbeam shine on you for a second!)

Did some digging today (for some reason it's hard for us -:flipoff2:)... I found an OEM CDL switch from SLEE as well as a PDF instruction manual. I think I'm set.

I figure if I can install a new steering damper (correctly on the second attempt, thank you...), I can handle this. But... if I end up noobing it up, I'll look to Hesser or Lenz for pro help. (Thanks for the advice/help guys!)

So far, so good. I got the switch from Slee today. It didn't take long at all to install - I think if I had bothered to set a stopwatch, it would've doubled the work time!
Now I'm bored, :meh: so I think I'm going to do the Pin-7 deal. Insomnia's great for gettin' things done - I just wish I knew where the hell my headlamp is!
