Help with my next bike

I am an avid downhiller, but I would really like to get into some allmountain/XC but I cannot afford two bikes. I sold my DH rig last year to pay some bills so I am in the market for something that is best of both worlds. somethings thats not terribley heavy, but also has some decent travel, around 7".

I am completely in love with the SC nomad, but the used market on those is pretty slim right now. My budget is around 1500-2000. also a trail SX would be a good choice, but a little out of my price range.

Wanted to get your oppinions on what you think would be in my range but would make an all around bike.

if you are a serious downhill rider i think you will either bust a lighter bike or be frustrated by what it cannot do. i'd pick one discipline or get two used bikes with your money.

No, he is on the right path. The Nomad, SX Trail, Giant Reign, Yeti 66 are very capable bikes. I am running a 160mm do-it-all bike (Morewood Mbuzi) and I am very happy with it. I raced pro DH for years and nowadays 6 and 7 bikes are very capable.

You might look at an older Iron Horse 6.6 or Specialized Enduro. I personally would go towards a 6" bike versus a 7" bike. 7" bikes are a bear to pedal.

cool. i am coming from it from an xc/am perspective. i am impressed the reign/nomad can hold up to dh stuff as those are pretty rideable bikes.

That part of the market is the most popular so of course it's the most expensive. For that price, I think for a yeti you would need to get a 575 or asr7, the sb66 is crazy expensive.

The nomad is a good choice, I would focus on something used to get into that pricepoint. Transition (blindside I think?) makes some good stuff that's not super expensive, if you can find a used one you might be in business.

Test ride an Ibis Mojo SL and HD back to back on the same trail against the Santa Cruz , Yeti, etc.
....than start saving your pennies and scouring the MTBR & Pinkbike classifieds.

I sold my DH bike awhile back and bought a 2012 Specialized Enduro EVO recently to fill the void. It has 160mm of travel which is just over 6.25" with coil sprung suspension front and back. It can still be pedaled to the top and it's pretty bombproof on the downhills. My first purpose built DH bike had 4 inches of travel so 6.25 inches is ample.
Most shops sell it for $2500 but my shop has had them on sale for $2200 a couple times.

I've been riding a Rocky Mountain SXC 70 with a few mods (mostly gearing, brakes, and bash guard) for four years. I ride about 98% DH, but still like having a light bike that pedals well for rides with my other stretchy short wearing friends. The bike is all-mountain but holds up very well in the downhill, I topped out at 49.8 MPH last summer on one of my favorite trails You will NOT regret going all-mountain / Freeride. Although its been great, I am looking to replace my Rocky and am looking at the following:

Giant Reign X (I am about sold on this frame)
Giant Faith
Banshee Rune
Kona Coilair
Kona Entourage
Kona Stinky Deluxe 2010 (absolutely loved this bike)

The Giant Reign X would be the most versatile out of that bunch and it's a pretty light bike for having 7" of travel, I had mine down to under 30lbs without going too crazy.
