I picked this bike rack up at a local yard sale for $1.00 Clearly someone just wanted it gone. I'm having a hard time figuring out how the bike actually mounts. There are two crossbars, with the same attachments.

If it won't work, I'm sure I could fit a Yak or Thule sytem on, just wondering if anyone has seen similar.

thanks,
uber.

The bike mounts upside down with the seat in the triangular piece and the handlebars under the clamps.

Wow that is so simple now that you've said that, but I wouldn't have ever guessed that...ever. I am building a rack for my wife's bike and was even tossing around the idea of just a seat pipe jobbie welded to a steel runner. So the bike would be upside down supported by the seat pipe jobbie.... I can see it in my head. Anyway I scrapped that idea and have bought the angle iron and quick conect jobbie for the front axle instead. Oh back to my point I was planning on building something very similar to that and still didn't see it.

Cool idea!!

I recommend you put a bungee or something through the tires when you carry the bike though. The spinning wheels will exert an astounding gyroscopic force on your car and the bikes.
