2mbb's got ~3,800 posts, vs/ my 200 or so... I'd seriously go with his advice before mine, that the smog pump would not affect the fuel mixture. Sorry, I guess I assumed it was helping to control the vacuum systems that run all of the various fuel mixture and emission and timing advance switches. Once again, my disclaimer: I am not a mechanic, I just have owned a bunch of older vehicles that have had about everything go wrong with them, and over time I started fixing more and more of the simple things and doing some troubleshooting. Some of the others on here are the real gurus, but heck, I like to chime in and learn a bit.

Seeing if the pulley turns freely would at least be a simple rule out though. Look for the adjustment bolts on one of the components attached to the same belt. One of the components should have a bracket that adjusts belt tension. Getting the belt off for a simple test should be easy enough.

So, starts fine? just runs poopy with throttle? and has squeel?
If you NEVER had the noise before I am inclined to think it is related. Find the noise and the culprit?

Is there a creek around that isn't fully blown, got yer 5wt handy?
Might make the time pass easier while the mechanic gives it a try...

Oh yeah, remembered another thing. You can take the air filter off and manually push the throttle( motor off); a mist or stream of gas should appear from the top of the carb when depressing the throttle.
I believe this will show if there is a blockage at the main jet (someone else confirm?)

Thank you..

If the mechanics only knew I had fishing gear in the back of the truck worth wayy more than the truck itself...heck fly tying stuff alone is worth more than the truck!

no water around anyways...well a little drainage and it did cross my mind :)

I find it very hard to believe that whatever it is, the squeal and the issue is not related. Happened on the same day, hours apart.

I am getting plenty of fuel into the carb...

Thank ya much!

Please don't leave anything of value in your truck while it is at an automotive repair shop. Especially if the truck is stored outside overnight. Let us know what they find.

I know not to leave stuff in there but Im in the middle of nowhere and everything I own is in there. They would have taken a long time to get everything out to find the valuables :)

just got the truck back. said the smog pump belt was too loose.

The squeak is gone and it seems to be running fine. Got it up to 65 and it didn't do anything...

Would that have caused the hesitation?(asking before I get back on the road)

Thanks!

Maybe you and she were just having a little argument?
Happy travels...

Just thought I'd let everyone know I got out of colorado and made it the 600+ miles to Tulsa.

Loose smog pump belt is what was causing the squeaking which in return could have been the problem. I also changed the horribly old spark plugs and replaced the fuel filter for the second time in a yr.

Ran like a top.

Now on to Jacksonville...

Thanks for all the help!
