1hdft manual 80 series in New Zealand
Quick rundown been chasing a few gremlins.
Driving home from work last Monday and noticed my turbo was over boosting. Up to 28-30 psi never stayed there for long at all noticed it fairly quickly. Truck was tuned for 24psi. Bigger turbo tuned pump ect.
Alternator is also over charging at times in the process of getting a new one. Bosch is in it and its only 6 months old. Think its just a crap voltage regulator. (This part might be useless but it might connect I don't know)
So last Tuesday turbo comes off with the manifold unbolt the turbo and it goes to a turbo place in Christchurch. Get it back on Friday and I fit it all back together yesterday. Was a stuck waste gate actuator. The guy changed the spring and bench tested it to open at 24 psi. I still had to put my boost tee back in and manually tune it to 24 psi.
So those few turbo runs it seemed good. Slight exhaust leak but got that fixed.
But after letting it sit for 30 minutes I start it again and has like a starter squeak to it bit of a high pitched whine on the key flick.
Rough idle and the snorkel along with the exhaust are pulsing in and out if that makes sense not like a steady blow that the exhaust would do.
I fuel cut the truck via my phone app has GPS to crank it over to oil the turbo before I started it. 5-10 seconds maybe 6 times until oil was flowing.
I've checked over intercooler piping, turbo piping ect. Vacuum lines from boost compensator to intake and to the boost tee/gauge are good.
Clear fuel line from filter to injection pump. Seems fine. Cracked injectors for any air.
I don't think my head has lifted due to how short of a time it was at 30 psi for.
Electric lift pump still humms and delivers fuel.
Turbo still boosts to 24psi while driving just a bit rough and has the odd miss.
I'm maybe thinking the fuel filter primer has finally gone and letting air in (but with the clear line showing no major bubbles idk just know they are crap at times.)
With the fuel cut via the phone for that much cranking over has it done something with the fuel cut solenoid?
After the turbo being fitted with a new waste gate spring would the injection pump need a re tune?
Any ideas? Thank you
