The powder coating on the running boards of the wife's 2017 Tundra is peeling off. I don't know whether the running boards are OEM or aftermarket, but they were on the truck when we purchased it.

I was trying to remove them today so they could be repainted. There were three bolts that appeared to be anchoring the running boards, which I removed, but the boards aren't coming off. Not sure where or how else they may be secured. Does anyone have runnning boards like this that they have removed? If so, any help on what else I need to do to get them off would be appreciated, thanks.

Wrong bolts, you need to remove the ones where it is bolted to the cabin (2 per leg). The bolts are made of soft metal and likely rusted, use an inductive heater before you touch them. Or be ready to drill the remnants out once the bolts are snapped.

This looks to be the OE boards. Wife's Sequoia TRD PRO has similar boards, and they are flaking, too. Not sure you'll be able to repaint them easily, since it is a corroded aluminum. The shop would need fix the problem chemically - hot bath in something that provides a strong oxide film resistant to road salt - and only then repaint.

I appreciate the info - I see the bolts you are referencing. Given that my wife wants the end result to look nice and spiffy, I may shop this paint job out...

Thanks!

Just buy new ones. My 15 tundra has Aries aftermarket boards as a birthday present from the kids. My next birthday is in two weeks.

Mine have bashed rocks, scraped rocks, sideswiped by a kid driving a hopped up Honda. The rubber skid pieces are trash and even if I fix them they are still trash.

So I will buy new OEM this time and be done with it.

My Tyger boards last way better than TRD PRO boards as well. They chip and rust a bit, but paint adhesion is superb.
