Hi All,

Brand new to this forum, so thanks for having me. I need help understanding how to price my 4Runner.

Color: Champagne
Trim: Limited 4x4 with the V8.
Odometer: 267.6k miles.

My family bought this brand new and it was sold to me by my father to me about 9 years ago. I never wanted to sell it, but I have nowhere to keep it now that I'm in SoCal.

Almost every mile was highway outside of the rare rush hour experience and towing a small uhaul for a couple days. Otherwise no towing use, did strap a mattress to the top once for about 15 miles.

Has received oil changes every 6 months/3k miles or less over the past 9 years. Was a work travel vehicle for both my father and I, so we performed all scheduled maintenance on time or slightly early.

For the engine, had to do a gasket replacement a few years ago. Have paperwork.

Alternator was replaced about 6 years ago - do not have paperwork.

Sunroof completely functional zero issues ever.

Problems:

- Main problem is ~220k miles were done in the Midwest, so there's some - what I would assume is - significant rusting to the undercarriage. I don't know if it's surface rust or not, but I don't think the benefit of experimenting will be greater than the cost given I intend to sell to an enthusiast for this Gen vehicle.

- A/C condenser recently replaced because the A/C is not highly functional. Minor improvement, but not resolved. Have paperwork.

- Rear windshield wiper no longer functions.

- Power steering out, more difficult at a standstill or low speeds. Have not attempted to diagnose because it doesn't bother me.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! This vehicle has always ran like an absolute champ and I've listened to many a podcast in it. All of the insides are original, I'd say very minimal wear for 20 years.

Here are more pictures and a video to show engine sounds perfect.

I wish I could give good advice on this but I don’t really know. I paid 4500 for a 2wd 2004 with 230k and no issues except paint and timing belt due. Zero rust anywhere. I personally would be scared of yours with the rust. I can fix rust, but man oh man is it a lot of work! Way more work than it could be worth. So, sadly, it’s either buy as cheap as possible and drive til it quits or part it out for the good stuff now. Neither route will net you much money without a lot of stress.
I say all that, but you may find someone who is very happy to just drive it like it is for $4500. Either way, I wish you the best and keep us posted on what you do?

That undercarriage will bring the $ down. Sorry but after seeing that I would've walked away.

Thanks for the response! Yes the Midwest driving definitely added an unfortunate element. A body shop nearby said replacing the majority of the undercarriage components with used CA parts would likely run around 2500 or so.

Likely I'll just try to sell it for like $4500 like you'd mentioned. I genuinely was trying to get some outside perspective on pricing. I'm kind of relying on Limited trim for heated leather seats and sunroof, the 4th Gen V8, and the 4wd.

Will let you know what happens!

Totally get your point. I agree that it should bring the cost down, that's why I'm trying to understand to what degree.

You said you'd walk away, does that mean you would walk away if it was $100? If not, at what point would you really walk away, and where would you say, "This is fair?" That's the information I'm trying to understand.

Sorry not even for free. Undercarriage is very broad....the hardlines, vacuum lines, hoses, fuel system, floor pan, rocker panels, fenders, joints and bushings all are compromised. I to live in CA and iwould be budgeting at a minimum of 10k just in parts and not counting shop labor. Vehicles in the rust belt are like Mona Lisa.
That shop says $2500 is a starting point. Sorry but its the reality. I would just keep it and drive it until its unsafe.

If it were a CA vehicle, $4500 is too low of a price. Being 260k and no rust and si e issues, the vehicle will fetch for 8-10k because its a 4.7l V8.
But being it was in the rust-belt, anyone paying $4500 does not know or work on vehicles.
IMO, Not worth selling....Just keep it as a back rig.
