Poseiden, my good CruiserHead, you are a PRIME canidate for the Toyota Emissions manual. About $18 from SOR the last time I looked. You find all the answers to the questions that you seek....

Who said wisdom was ever cheap? ;)

here is a hose that is folded over and pinched probably too tight to pass any air through it. It is located at the front of the engine justr behind the thermostat.

You are missing the violet colored BVSV that screws into your thermostat housing. It is temperature relative and helps regulate vacuum to the EGR valve. You need this if you are running an EGR valve.

maybe this will help, this is the stock emmisions on a 82 2F, which is the same as all fj60, this happens to be in a 82 fj40(but its the same as my 86 fj60) ONLY difference is the fj60 has the AC idle up on the carb.

the Pimp RULES!!!! muuuhahahahahahahaha!!!

OK
Well I blew all my cash this month on the 55 and presents for my family and Gf so the emisions maual will have to wait until the new year. I will be driving 1000 miles or so for christmas so i ma trying ot get it all going good before i hit the trail. If oyu know oregon I am going from John Day to dallas to Lake of the woods(neer Klamath Falls) to corvallis and then back to John Day.

So one more question:

there is one of those green wiring conections hanging straight down from the throttle side of the carb. I believe it is the female plug end and i couldn't see where it goes?

o naother note I put some seafoam through the rig last night and WOW what a diffrence. It really took some of the slugishness out of it.

BVSV 1(the violet/purple one) (BVSV 2 is the pink one)is for the EGR system as well as part of the vacume(spark advance) system, I recall it opens when the temp hits 110F then allows the vac advance to work(when needed) and like i mentioned it also effects the EGR. If your smoged you need these to be working. new sensor is about $30.

the green conector that is hanging prolly goes to the idle selnoid on the carb, that is the only green conector I can think of

here is scan from the 81+ emmsion FSM

Thank you pimp, cahilc and the rest of the posters. I took a good look at it when I was changing my oil on sunday. The sensor part is broke off and justthe metal part remains.

My question now is what does the purple sensor do?
