And then this happened.
I'm 100% sure I tightened this bolt. But obviously.. It's no longer tight.
Sad today.
Anybody have a 1hdft head?

As we get older our brain:whoops:...

My rule of thumb, locktite, torque, paint marker bolt head red yellow?:meh:

As for a head there is a guy in Ontario that is very good at getting parts quick and at a resonable price..

But again that is across the border.

edit.. pull the head, maybe its OK? If it kissed the piston, you might be looking at bottom end damage as well.

Sh*T Brian. :frown: This whole thread is a bit painful to read. As Rob noted, pull the head for sure and see how bad things look. CruiserParts.net seems to have a 1HD-FTE head, but not sure that it works for the 1HD-FT.

EDIT - here are the Mr. T numbers for the various years. If you can't find a used one, it may be worth asking Akella (Yan) if he can source these.

1HD-FT version

1101 HEAD SUB-ASSY, CYLINDER
11101-17040 (01/1995 - 04/1996) 1 € 2,292.10
11101-17041 (05/1996 - 12/1997) 1 € 2,282.06

1HD-FTE version

11101 HEAD SUB-ASSY, CYLINDER
11101-17042 1 € 2,282.76

Hoping things go a bit more smoothly moving forward.

Oh man, I've been following this thread from the beginning and when I read the news, my stomach turned over. I hope what you find isn't catastrophic, we all feel for ya.

Hi Brian,

My engine block number is 0147021, and is a 1996 also (non-EGR from OZ). In an earlier thread 0122677 and 1133473 were also listed as 1996 produced blocks, May and November respectively. Hopefully that helps somewhat. Perhaps one of our friends in Canada, such as Sheldon, may have more info to share regarding the splitting point of the early vs. late, and compatibility between the years.

Outcome:
Cam, lifters (rollers), bridges, etc are all trashed. Basically all the valve train stuff. Though the actual valves and pistons are ok.
Sr. Toyota wants something like $4000 for all the parts.
So I'm still looking. pretty sure I have a deal with a guy for a used head; but the deal requires buying a couple extra 1HDFT/5-Speed drivetrains. So... in a couple months... I'll be selling a couple 1HDFT/5-Speed drivetrains.
