Help mounting tailgate half doors

I am mounting the rear tailgate half doors and I got the right (passenger side) mounted and it just barely closes without scraping on the hinge edge and now I am trying to do the left side and there is no way to mount the hinge to the body without some sort of big spacer. Is there supposed to be a spacer there? Are my hinges bent or damaged?

I have hinge pads, the problem is the gaps are like 3/16". The hinges look to have a slight bend in them compared to the other side, so I am going to work on straightening them.

Don't try this at home?! Gave the hinges a little bend using what was available to me Got them both mounted but thats not the end of the problems. Its gonna take a little work getting these aligned - gap is too wide in the middle where they meet. Gonna have to dremel some bolt holes to get a little more adjustment - some have very little adjustment because of the body work that was done. :/
