It's about time for rubber; I have 21k on Michelin LTX M/S which ride wonderfully and are great pavement performers, and though they could go another 20k probably before I'd need to replace them, I'm just in the mood, you know?

Not going to lift the truck...yet. That'll likely a year or 2 off. But, I'm thinking 285/75s with no lift might be the way I go; seems there's a consensus on the board that most all 285/75s will fit w/out rubbing.

I've had BFG ATs multiple times on different vehicles and though they're great, they're heavy, a bit old school, and I just think I might go another direction this time.

Leaning toward Michelin LTX AT2's in 285/75R16, but very open to suggestions.

Also, wondering how much MPG I might expect to lose; I'm 13-14 in daily Phoenix driving with a fairly heavy foot. If I go to 285s, I plan to adjust my driving style and (hopefully) be able to eek 12mpg out of it...we'll see.

Definitely want an AT (I live in AZ, plenty of trails) as opposed to an MT-- I drive too many pavement miles to go MT even though I love Toyo MTs.

Open to all thoughts, suggestions, opinions...

Based on suggestions here and my driving mix (city and highway with lots of snow and ice) I went with Bridgesteone Dueler AT Revos 2s and I'm very happy with them. Have nothing to compare them against on the Cruiser but they're silent, aggressive enough and have great grip for everything I need. I went 26575R16 because I didn't see the need to get the biggest tire I could stick in there.

Nitto TGs. Since I have a lift, I opted for the 295s and have about 3K on them and am pleased so far. I had them siped and they seem to work. Unlifted, the 285s should do the trick.

this is a stupid question but! Where did you have them siped?

ive got 305/70r16 cooper ATR's they have done 70k and still got 30k to go am waiting for the new st cooper to be released end of this year

Thanks for the input so far Gents! Nitto TGs are on my consideration list; I think they meet my needs in the fact that they're aggressive enough without approaching MT tread, which would be overkill out here (little to no mud here in AZ).

The Revo 2's and the Coopers deserve a look too; I think they also meet my needs. Much more grip than LTXs, still decent enough on the road manners.

One thing I need is toughness in the AT; lots of rocks, gravel, and hardpack dirt out here, so I need a tire that can handle some rough & tumble driving. I know BFGs are legendary here, and as mentioned I've had before and been pleased-- just in the mood to go another direction this time.

I'm still on the fence on size a bit too...I hope that by going to 285s I don't lose a ton of acceleration, braking, handling, economy, etc. I know everything is a trade-off, but still...

I swore by Mich A/T's over 15 years with various Suburbans...perfect tires with great treadwear.

Now, swmbo & I do exploring in the Owyhee mountains & I wanted something with a more aggressive tread pattern. I installed Toyo A/T's in 285-75 16...nice in dirt, rock, and a decent snowstorm over Donner summit last month.

You'll lose about 3% in acceleration & speedo will err on the low side;). Prior tires were the same in 275-70 size, so speed through twisties is lower, but not at all slow.

Zero rubbing.

Steve

I, right now, have the A/T2s and while they are a good tire, but they are not aggressive enough for my taste. If I had to do it again I'd probably get either the Nittos or the Cooper Zeon LTZ

I have also been impressed with my Toyo AT's. I am running them in a stock size, however. We had ridiculous amounts of snow this past year and they certainly did great. They also have performed well in some moderate off road so far, as well. They are nice and quiet on the Lexus.

I also loved my Revos that were on my 80. They wore like iron and I REALLY tested those off road. I never had a puncture or problem with the tires. I would also air them down significantly when we wheeled. Very nice road manners, as well.

You may have made my decision for me; I like the level of aggressiveness of the AT REVO 2s and it sounds like they provide a reasonable ride. And the toughness and puncture resistance is key; the wheeling I do out here has plenty of rock, gravel, etc.

By all means keep the insight & opinions coming, but AT REVO 2s may have taken a lead in the race...

Tires siped at BigO $15/each. Does not void warranty and according to them, actually extends life of tire - lowers heat... They did great in the snow (we have some of that up here...) Quiet.

295/75/16 with RTT I still get around 15 (without the close to 6% calculation). I am not heavy on the throttle - elk, moose and bison work great as speed traps.

I'm very happy with my Revo2s. 38 psi is just right.

Also consider the Cooper Zeon LTZ

Just installed Nitto TG's a couple weeks ago and have been very happy thus far. I've got about 2k on them (mostly highway) and have wheeled with them twice now. So far a great balance for being highway worthy yet aggressive enough to handle the AZ terrain.

Thanks again for all the feedback! Went with Bridgestone Revo 2 ATs in 285/75R16 and very happy a few dozen miles in!

Started a separate thread about the purchase instead of wrapping this one up...oops...little carried away...
