After exploiting the west side road (not on the map above), I crossed the Snake River at Copperfield and headed up along the paved road to the Hell's Canyon Dam site and information center.

After checking out the the dam I headed south and took the the steep shelf-road called the Kleinschmidt Grade out of Hells canyon on the Idaho side. Here is why I took this road.
From there I took a bunch on convoluted forest roads (many of which differed from the maps) trying to get back to pavement via Idaho Hwy 95. I found Hw 95 is surprising scenic along the eastern flank of the Hells Canyon area. I drove through the small town Riggins Idaho and took this picture thinking about land costs in BC.
This trip would be best in the shoulder months (not July/Aug) since it is much warmer in the Canyon than the surroundings plateau. The Hells Canyon visitor's center reported it hit 117 F during the summer.

I like the open range, nice touch. So you're moving to big rock condos?
Glenn's shop probably cost more than that to build
Wow, fantastic trip and great to see a new area to vacation in. Eric is still running cooper all terrains I see - good choice
