get a kit so that the switch turns on a relay that controls the lights then most of the wiring is under the hood and only low current going through the switch

The harness is pretty extensive w/ special connectors so I don't know if you can try & source all the parts seperately & wire it up from scratch. The #87202 is the 4 Wheel Parts # for the Hella 4000 harness:

Thanks, Chuck. I have been told that the Hella kit was not very stout, but that looks like some heavy gauge wire and a quality setup.

Do you have any pics of it installed under your hood?

I've never had any problems w/ Hella wiring kits in the past, but those were the Hella 500's & I have 2 kits on my 40. Keep a spare relay just in case. I'm not to the wiring part of the build yet & it won't be for a while either.
