Accel Chevy HEI (59107) distributer with the gray Accel Super Coil (140003).
Intermittent engine cutting out while driving. Duration from a cylinder miss to total cutout lasting up to five seconds. Will not cut out while stopped and idling.
Checked wiring. Nothing obvious is loose or shorting. Checked to make sure connectors are tight, and there is no chaffing of wires around metal, particularly when going through the firewall.
Ignition switch checks OK.
About a month ago, the tachometer went intermittent. Figured it was because the tach is a cheap Brand X unit and it needed replacing. But this going intermittent so close to this other problem makes me wonder if it is the distributor or coil unit.
While typing this, perhaps I should check the tach. Maybe it's causing a short. Simple to disconnect and check, will do so tomorrow.
Any suggestions? Tempted to purchase a replacement HEI distributor. Would not go to waste, as I've been meaning to put on on my pickup. I'm not a GM expert, but it appears the same distributor will work on both a 350 and a 454 with standard deck heights.
