i am not wanting to upgrade anything! I just need to replace a burnt out bulb and wanted opinions whether i should just replace with stock, or replace with another aftermarket bulb. That's it.

I think Dan's got your answer.

Harness or no, John Deere's are an upgrade, so forget about them.

Seems like Consumer Reports did a thing on aftermarket headlight replacement and found that OEM's were better most of the time (better that silverstars) one of the few that was better was a bulb made by GE but I have never seen them before in the stores...

Does anyone read the fxxxing FAQ??!!!!

Most Of The Above questions have been answered about 10 times including why Sylvania Silverstars in the U.S. aren't worth the money, why to upgrade the wiring harness and why it isn't necessary with HIR's as well as other information.

Maybe I'm missing it, but I can't find a link to the lighting FAQ in the FAQ thread. Did Romer miss it?

I am kinda new here so I apologize. I too realize that there is a ton of great stuff on the faq/s but, does a dude have to get roasted for asking a question? Whether it is covered or not ~17 people gave their opinion and I think that is all he ask. So they didn't see it as too much a bother. I thought forum's were around to initiate dialogue and perpetuate conversation between it's members. Sorry..

My opinion/vote
HIR's from the link a few weeks ago on ebay with the slee harness, great combo unsure how it night work without, just thought it may prevent a problem such as an electrical fire or being in the middle of nowhere without any headlights. The combo rivals other cars I have owned with xenon, HID etc

The John Deere HIR's are Toshibas, which replaced the GE's a few years ago. The Toshibas are much brighter and last longer than the GE's.

FYI, the HIR's, while technically an upgrade, uses the same amount of current as the oem bulbs (55 watts). They are brighter because of the way the light is refracted.
