Question about water passage hole in head gaskets for a 22RE.
In this picture you can see the block (lower image), old head gasket (center image, silver in color) and a new head gasket (top image, dark in color).
The blue circles show that the water passage in the block is about 3/8 by 1 inch in size. Both the old and new head gaskets only have a hole about 1/4 inch in diameter for the water to flow through.
Is this normal, or is there a difference between manufacturers of gaskets??? Or does the water have to have a greater residual time in the block to better transfer the heat to the water???
I want to bolt this engine back together, but would like to know if I’m making an error using this head gasket.
Thanks,
Jerry D.
