Thanks Greg. I'll be doing a few phone calls to ask for prices.

Hey Al,

Yea, go with Toyota Red.... The new Toyota red is already premixed so you just put it in... But you may want to check the PH on the coolant... (not sure how true this is... could be a mechanics wives tale...) but one older mechanic said, "Check the PH on Toyota Red over time. Even with Toyota saying their RED coolant goes 100K, over time it can turn acidic which starts to create gasket failure."

Hmmm.. Could make sense, but I'm no chemist/coolant expert.

However one of my good friends thats a Lexus tech and a previous Acura tech advised that there is no coolant better than the Red. When he was at Acura he said one of the big problems was the swelling of hoses over a period of time. But since coming to Lexus, he hasn't seen any hose swelling on vehicles that run the red, but does see it from time to time with Lexus's running the green...

Take it for what is worth. But figured I'd throw in my $0.02... I guess regular scheduled maint will keep you 32K LC running for a long time!!

What up Scott! Thanks for your $0.02 I remember having the conversation with you about your buddy working at Acura and Lexus. The LX is getting the coolant flushed well and filled with RED today. I have advised the mechanics to look at all the hoses and especially the heater hose. My regular service guy over at Toyota did mention the swelling of the hose. Both comments, what you and he are saying, match. I'm very particular, meticulous, and anal with everything. I hope to keep this truck running as SOLID as can be.

I did read a portion of an earlier thread where CDan mentioned he does 50/50 RED coolant and distilled water. Fellas. Is the "NEW" Toyota RED premix about what CDan does or is the premix something else?

SD TRUX

Looks like you got answers to your questions on the coolant and shops. Yota masters may be a good option closer but I believe SD Trux will still replace the PHH for about $100, anybody done this recently?

That coolant looks better than what I got out of mine. As most have said probably original red, mine was a brown green sludggy color that is now a bright green after a few flushes. I will eventually be replacing my radiator soon since it is still original and possibly clogged with a green red mix from years ago. As others have said Dan is a good sourse for parts and a discount, order all at once and get reduced shipping cost in one large box rather than several orders.

At some point you may want to replace as things fail, because if you continue to read all the posts and OCD mud members have with maintenece on these rigs you will be replacing things for months. I am not saying don't fix things, but some things may go a few more years without failure. My list of repairs is still 2 pages long but I continue to drive it, just not in areas were I am far from help. Money and time is my reason for not getting to them and mine is not a daily driver.

I hear you landcruising. The truck was not beaten up at all. I'm gonna do some minor maintenance here and there, but after this I hope that I won't have to do much for a while. Still need to get pricing on PHH from the shops.

Hey fellas. Thank you so much for all your replies and suggestions. My truck got a much needed radiator flush. It also received a new thermostat and gasket. And a new radiator cap. I'm stoked that I have a few more things checked off my "to do list." Next on the list: PHH upgrade and getting the '97 Lexus FSM. I need to do this %$#@&* on my own!!!!!!!!!!!!!
