Hello,

I’ve just installed a new timing belt and tensioner on a HDJ80.

Everything is lined up on BDC as per fsm, however when turning the crank pulley clockwise by hand until the camshaft pulley is on TDC the crank pulley and injector pump pulley are slightly past TDC. See photos attached.

I’ve not had this happen before and wondering if anyone can please shed some light. It all turns over and feels normal by hand.

Thanks

1. Set the timing belt with the crank pulley at TDC.
2. Then check the pump gear is close to the check mark.
3. Then check the timing mark on the cam gear

The cam rotates at half the speed of the crank. An error at the cam gear will be doubled at the crank. An error at the crank will be halved at the cam.

If you're a long way out after setting the crank to TDC, check that the belt isn't one tooth out of position.
The cam gear may need to shift a little as you install a new belt.
Worn teeth on the old belt cam make a few degrees difference to cam position vs a new belt with no wear on rubber teeth.
