HDJ80 Heaven....

As one of my shows I watch I have noticed this season on IRT: Dealiest Roads they have chosen to drive the roads in Bolivia and man I don't think I have seen soo many 80's on one tv show with all the color combo, quad lights, n bush bars. (they drive semi's but the follow tricks are 80's and there are tons on the side of the road)


So to those who haven't watch it n want to see some crazy truck drivers tune into history on wednesdays!

It's called "drama queens" and that's what reality television is all about. I haven't seen the new program yet; but, I am looking forward to getting caught up online.

I have been on Bolivian and Ecuadorian roads with mad drivers that have given me good enough scares that I have told them I am getting out and walking. When your bald wheels are less than a foot from the edge and there is nothing to stop you until you hit the bottom some 3000 plus feet below, walking seems the common sense thing to do.

The other thing which makes Bolivian roads so dangerous is that their drivers ("professional" and personal use) commonly drink and drive. Then they chew a load of coca to ward of the effects of alcohol and fatigue.

Unless things have changed in the last 5 years in Bolivia, 80s are not the most likely Cruiser you will see. Everywhere I have been in the world it has been 70 series for business and NGOs use (maybe some 105s for those who don't know better), followed by the 60s and 40s for the rest. Sure, there will be a smatering of 80s. In some countries, the UN has gone over to the Rav4's cousin - the Prado. That was the majority of their fleet in Timor Leste with a smattering of 105s, 200s and Patrol GUs.

The NGOs really like them. Simple no frills but dependable hualers of people and supplies where the nearest trained mechanic may be a couple days away on bush trails.

Nothing "pre 80" about the 70 series trucks. They are still selling them brand spankin new around the world. The 80 series? ... not so much. If Toyota is concerned about the Land Cruiser market, they should forget the shopping cart 200s and concentrate on what is proven and what the off-road market around the world wants and needs. They might even concised the market they would have for them in North America. From what I was told, the UN uses Prados and 200s not because they are superior machines but because of the special deal they have with Toyota.

They changed the look of the 70 series cruisers in 2008 aka 08

I was saying it would be better for me to get a pre 08 mine truck
Mainly for the reason of finding body parts is easy
